Description: MEND was founded in 1971 by a group of concerned neighbors who wanted to help stem the rising poverty they saw in the surrounding communities. They began humbly by collecting non-perishable food and used clothing and giving out to families in need, mostly as referred by local churches.

MEND has grown steadily over the years and now provides a wide range of basic services as well as programs to educate and empower recipients to improve their lives.

MEND does not receive government funding of any kind. Only 5% of our income is used for administrative expenses, 95% goes to direct client services.

Target demographics: Low-income families and individuals.

Someone who had 3 hours of volunteer time could: Each month, more than 9,300 hours are donated by volunteers from a broad range of backgrounds and income levels; all joining together to act as people helping people. Each person plays a vital role in meeting the mission of MEND. From the distribution of food, clothing to assistance in job training and placement, our volunteers give MEND life.

Mission:
With dignity and respect, powered by volunteers, MEND’s mission is to break the bonds of poverty by providing basic human needs and a pathway to self-reliance.
