Description: Meals On Wheels, Inc. of Tarrant County (MOWI) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable organization that has operated independently in Tarrant County since 1973. We provide hot, nourishing meals to homebound elderly and disabled persons in Tarrant County who are unable to prepare meals for themselves and who have no one to do so for them. The meals, daily contact by caring volunteers, and professional case management allow frail, homebound persons to remain in their own homes... where they want to be.

A volunteer force of 3,500 delivers meals to people who truly need our help in neighborhoods throughout Tarrant County. Volunteers also deliver blankets, fans, supplemental groceries, medical equipment, microwave ovens, pet food, and other items essential to help clients maintain their independence.

Volunteers and financial contributors have always been the backbone of our programs. MOWI could not operate one day without their unselfish support. Volunteers not only deliver meals to the homebound in Tarrant County but also, perhaps even more importantly, show their concern, love, and compassion. For many clients, volunteers are the only people they see each day and their link with the world. Financial contributors provide over 60% of the MOWI operating budget. Without their help, MOWI could not feed 2,000+ persons per day and would not have a central kitchen.

MOWI also provides professional case management to thousands of frail and isolated persons in Tarrant County each year.

Direct beneficiaries per year: 4,000

Someone who had 3 hours of volunteer time could: deliver hot lunches and friendly human contact to homebound elderly and disabled people along a route near your home or office. The average route has 11 clients and takes about an hour to complete.

To promote the dignity and independence of older adults, persons with disabilities, and other homebound persons by delivering nutritious meals and providing or coordinating needed services.

Results:

We have served more than 13 million meals since 1973.

I deliver meals every Monday and substitute on routes when I'm able. If my schedule would allow, I would deliver most everyday.
