Gage Academy of Art
Profile ( less )
Description: Founded in 1989 by artist Gary Faigin and architect Pamela Belyea, Gage Academy has evolved from a workshop school offering annual teaching seasons in New York, Santa Fe and Seattle to an established academy, offering programs year-round in the St. Nicholas Building in Seattle’s Capitol Hill district. The trustees of the non-profit Gage Academy of Art assumed the vision and operational responsibilities of the original school on January 1, 2000. In March 2000, Gage received its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS. In 2007, Gage won the WA State Governor's Arts Award. Today, Gage serves artists from across the NW region.
Target demographics: Annually, Gage serves over 10,000 members of our community through educational and community programs in the visual arts. Our Youth Prorgrams engage young artists ages 6 to 18 and our open enrollment Adult Programs draw artists of all skill levels from beginners to professionals. Gage year-long ateliers provide professional training in drawing and painting to a core group of 40 artists who work in on-site studios under the mentorship of master teaching artists.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Each year, Gage awards $160,000 in tuition relief to over 300 deserving students.
Someone who had 3 hours of volunteer time could: Show up for our “Drawing Jam” (December) or our “Best of Gage” (June) and help to run one of the most fun public art events in Seattle.
Geographic areas served: Gage serves artists across the NW region
