Direct beneficiaries per year: 21,900 different people seek emergency food assistance in our area in any given week.
Someone who had 3 hours of volunteer time could: sort canned goods, deliver weekend BackPack meals to schools for children at-risk of hunger, pack boxes of non-perishable food and personal items for low-income elderly and/or provide office support.
Mission:
To eliminate hunger in Nebraska and Iowa
Results:
In 2010 food distribution at Food Bank for the Heartland has increased more than 25 percent compared to 2009.

I love how Food Bank for the Heartland has brought attention to the fact that hunger is a concern right here in Omaha and surrounding areas, not just in far off cities and countries we see on TV.
