Description: CHAMPS is a nonprofit organization focused on addressing men’s health concerns by raising awareness of early detection and disease treatment. In conjunction with numerous organizations, this annual event provides a broad range of services to adult men throughout Metro Atlanta. The initiative focuses on the importance of men owning and addressing their health and becoming more educated about overall healthier lifestyles. While CHAMPS provides screenings and health education to ALL men who participate, it specifically targets the medically underserved who are at greater risks for developing certain health disorders.

Target demographics: Uninsured, Underinsured, low-income men 18 years of age and older.

Someone who had 3 hours of volunteer time could: Assist with the logistics of the community health-care event, that screens men for various diseases including prostate cancer, colon cancer, hypertension, diabetes, STDs, dental, mental health, and foot, assist with obtaining vitals (blood pressure, blood specimens, urine, height, weight, etc.), registration, set-up, break-down, traffic flow, meet and greet, data entry, and more.

Mission:

Our mission is clear. To promote and raise awareness of the importance of early detection and prevention concerning health issues for men, especially in the area of prostate cancer. We exist to help eradicate the lines that enable health disparities in this world to exist. Although it is a lofty goal, we believe by providing this safety net we can pursue our mission on all fronts: awareness, education, and prevention. With these tools we believe we can provide an inexpensive opportunity for community members to learn about health promoting behaviors and make healthy lifestyle changes.

CHAMPS is an absolute great service; I have no form of insurance, cannot afford it, so I take advantage of all free medical check-ups. I was somewhat disappointed on my last two (so far) visits.
