Target demographics: Our target population is made up of students, K through 12, who meet one or more of the following criteria: 1) At-risk of academic failure as identified by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Texas Legislature, 2) Economically disadvantaged, or 3) Currently in a crisis situation; e.g., deployment, death of a family member, divorce, etc.

Direct beneficiaries per year: 7000+

Someone who had 3 hours of volunteer time could: Go on a field trip, tutor a child, assist with program events

Geographic areas served: 5 school districts (Killeen, Temple, Belton, Copperas Cove, and Salado) within Bell and Coryell Counties, TX. This area is home to Fort Hood, the largest military installation in the free world.

Mission:
Communities In Schools (CIS) closely monitors the academics, behavior, and attendance of at-risk students in Bell and Coryell Counties, Texas. Through professional campus support addressing individual student needs, increased parental/family involvement, and closely supervised activities, CIS strives to promote students staying in school and graduating, thereby improving their chances of success in life.
Results:
Results have proven the program to be very successful. During the 2009-10 school year, Communities In Schools of Bell-Coryell Counties, Inc. individually case managed 7,290 students while serving over 35,000 students in various other capacities. Of the 7,290 students case managed, the following results were obtained:

* 99% Stayed in School
* 93% Promoted
* 98% Improved in Academics
* 98% of students Improved in Behavior
* 97% of students Improved in Attendance
* 99% Graduated (CIS eligible senior students)

I was a CIS student during my JR high years. Through the years I've seen the program expand and help students and their families. I've personally been fortuante to work with this organization closely and everyone is great. They really have a heart for there students and the students really rely on ... more »

I was a member of CIS in Jr. High, and I can truly say that being apart of an organization that cared about me and my well being was very special. At that age it is so easy to drift into groups or clicks that are negative. CIS was a place where I could go and involve myself with different activities... more »
