Mission

Founded in 1992, Child Family Health International is a global family of committed professionals and students who work to strengthen communities at the grassroots level. We are united by a vision of advancing quality healthcare for all by creating global health education programs that are socially responsible and financially just.

Geographic areas served:

Worldwide, with a focus on the US, Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, South Africa, India and Nicaragua

Target demographics:

Our clients are health science students from anywhere in the world. To date, we have enrolled students from 35 countries in our global health education programs.

The fees our students pay go to support the local underserved communities where we work and with whom we partner. Our overhead is 4.8% (2007 independent audit)

Results to date:

-->Established in 1992 with sixteen years of ‘on the ground’ success
-->17 sites in 6 countries (Bolivia, Ecuador, India, Mexico, Nicaragua, South Africa)
-->4,500+ health science students have completed programs
-->Supports & works with 250+ medical professionals around the world
-->Donated $8 million in medical supplies/equipment
-->Offers professional development opportunities to global medical partners
-->Has Institutional Partnerships, including Stanford Medical School, Duke School of Nursing, Harvard University (College Corps), UC Davis
-->Annual Budget: $4.1million; overhead: 4.8%
-->Recommended for Special Consultative Status with the United Nations (ECOSOC) Economic and Social Council, July 2008

Direct beneficiaries per year: 800+ students and 250+ CFHI community partners (doctors and businesses)

Indirect beneficiaries per year: The thousands of patients who receive additional support as a result of CFHI's involvement in their communities by way of working with our local partners

Obstacles:

Funding to increase our level of general operating support is always a challenge; IT expertise.

CFHI is a small staff of 8 people who work tirelessly and wear many different hats in order to provide a high level of service to our students and global partners.

Your donation of $50 enables us to:

support a child’s health services for a year in Ecuador

Your donation of $100 enables us to:

transport $1,000 worth of medical supplies to the underserved communities with whom we work.

Your donation of $4,000 enables us to:

Description

Child Family Health International (CFHI) builds and strengthens sustainable healthcare services for underserved communities worldwide through international service-learning health electives, grants, and donated medical supplies.

Programs

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SERVICE-LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES: Experience international through hands-on 4 or 8 week programs in Bolivia, Ecuador, India, Mexico & South Africa. Open to all allied health students.

INTERNATIONAL GRANTS: CFHI indirectly provides critical medical services to our partners abroad. Support CFHI's efforts in bringing village-based health care to underserved areas.

HEALTH PROMOTER TRAINING: CFHI trains community-based health workers and teaches local members about preventive medicine and public health issues. Equipped with medicines and supplies physicians often see over 400 patients in a month.

MEDICAL SUPPLY RECOVERY: CFHI salvages reusable medical equipment and supplies through the "RECOVER" program and distributes them to our International partner organizations and other needy communities worldwide.
