Target demographics: ARTS/West is a multi-use performing arts facility that provides low-cost space for plays, concerts, recitals, multimedia events, films, classes, workshops, community meetings, and festivals produced by and for the community of Athens, Ohio. Located in rural Southeastern Ohio among the foothills of Appalachia, the building is a former Church of the Nazarene that was purchased and renovated by the City of Athens through a State of Ohio Community Development Block Grant in 2005.

Someone who had 3 hours of volunteer time could: Ohio University and Hocking College students are eligible for volunteer service in exchange for facility usage.
Volunteers may assist in: beatification of the grounds, cleaning, envelope stuffing, ushering for performances,
help with load-in and strikes, tech work (if you already know or wish to learn), teaching a FREE workshop, etc.
fundraising prep, direct mail campaign prep, space prep, promotional activities including postering.

Board Members and Affiliation: ARTS/West Advisory Consortium is a group of Athens Community Artists and Educators appointed by the Athens Municipal Arts Commission to serve as program advisors to the ARTS/West Program Specialist. The Consortium was formed in August 2005. Current members:

Dan Hudson, Community Member/Participant musician, actor, pharmacist for Ohio University;
Barbara Fiocchi, Ohio University, Costume Designer;
Wendy McVicker, Community Member/Participant Ohio Arts Council;
William Cook, playwright and educator;
Michael Tobar, professional musician, Marietta City Schools;
Robert Winters, Ohio University, The Ohio Valley Summer Theater, The Corporation for the Performing Arts;
Marilyn Remonko, Ohio University Community Music School (retired) volunteer;
Guy Remonko, professional musician, Ohio University.

Mission:
The mission of ARTS/West is to make facilities, resources, and opportunities available to arts organizations, individual artists, and community residents. ARTS/West harnesses community focus for all individuals engaged in the creation, performance and exhibition of the arts and promotes activities preserving the beauty, heritage and culture of our town.
Results:
ARTS/West has grown by more than 20% in usage each year it has been open, and now serves more than 23,000 patrons, artists, and community members each year.

I am a teacher at a nearby public school. Our 7th and 8th graders just returned from a "field trip" to Arts West to see the "Furry Fables". What a wonderful visit! The play was funny and the students thoroughly enjoyed it; and the Reading lessons from Conflict/Plot to Vocabulary were fantastic! ... more »

I have been involved with ARTS/West from the planning stages and have been extremely pleased to find that if has found a way to begin to meet the hopes and expectations we projected for it. my wife and I have attended a wide variety of performances. We have taken or grandchildren to see Jack & The Bean Stalk, listened to a renowned jazz piano player, enjoyed plays and music events, viewed art on walls, laughed and cried.
