Animal Humane New Mexico
Profile ( less )
Description: Animal Humane is New Mexico's oldest and largest private animal welfare organization. Founded by Colonel Edmund and Thelma Evans, Animal Humane was incorporated on September 1, 1965 as the Anti-Cruelty Federation. In 1968, they changed their name to Animal Humane Association of New Mexico and located to their current campus at 615 Virginia Street SE. At the time, they occupied a single, two-story building and owned only the land surrounding this converted apartment complex. Over the past four decades their campus has grown to three-acres. It is filled with numerous buildings to support their diverse programs and care for the 200+ cats/dogs under their daily care. They are currently DBA Animal Humane | New Mexico.
In 2010, Animal Humane found loving, forever homes for 4,810 pets and they adopted 100% of the healthy pets in their care. This record has held in 2011, as their expert team of staff, volunteers and board members work tirelessly to re-home pets in their care. Other noteworthy 2010 achievements include 10,000 spay/neuter surgeries at their donor-subsidized veterinary clinic, 860 pets transferred to their campus from 25 shelters statewide through their Project Fetch program and close to 1,300 puppies, kitten, dogs and cats cared for through their life-saving Foster Care program.
Target demographics: Animal Humane's services are available to everyone. Any one may find their new best friend at one of their three Adoption Centers. Their adoptable pets our vaccinated, sterilized and trained, making them the best pet ever! Their donor-subsidized Veterinary Clinic, a low-cost clinic offering spay/neuter services and critical and emergency care to low-income pet owners, is the only one of its kind in New Mexico. Clinic patients need only qualify financially. Please visit AnimalHumaneNM.org for qualification details.
Animal Humane’s veterinary team hosts monthly vaccinations clinics open to the general public. Their Behavior Department offers rewards-based training classes at each of our three locations and operates a free Behavior Hotline (505.938.7900) available to all pet owners. They offer quality pet products at affordable prices at each of their pet stores (Animal Outfitters I at 615 Virginia St. SE and Animal Outfitters II at 9132 Montgomery Blvd. NE) and they operate a Pet Food Bank that distributes free food to needy pet owners and rescue groups statewide.
