Mission:
The Alliance for Safety Awareness for Patients (ASAP) is a non-profit 501c3 education and awareness organization. We are dedicated to sharing life-saving information about the dangers of hospital-acquired infections, now the 4th leading cause of death in the United States. Hospital-acquired infections account for more deaths each year than breast cancer, AIDS and traffic deaths combined.

Our goal is to educate and protect patients, healthcare workers and the public as a means to end the spread of preventable hospital-acquired infections. ASAP is committed to empowering patients to make informed decisions and become proactive participants in their own healthcare.

Our organization was started by Necrotizing Fasciitis Survivor Alicia Cole and her parents Ron & Betty. Following ‘routine’ surgery to remove uterine fibroids, Alicia contracted a near fatal hospital-acquired case of flesh-eating disease.

While still healing from six additional surgeries necessitated by the infection, she began using her experience to educate others via emails, letters and websites - adamant that no other family should have to endure such a horrendous life-threatening ordeal.

Sadly, every year 2 million Americans contract dangerous infections as a result of treatment in a hospital, of those the CDC states over 100,000 will die. As we look to the future one thing is clear…there is a growing need for a grassroots patient safety organization like ASAP. Infection rates are climbing rapidly and the devastating physical, emotional and economical impact of hospital-acquired infections on its victims, their families, and our country is astounding.

As part of its mission, ASAP works with established advocacy groups, health professionals, healthcare educators and legislators, to spread awareness and effect a positive change.

With donor support, we can increase our efforts to:

1. Educate and Protect
2. Share FREE life-saving literature
3. Donate supplies and assistance to survivors in need
4. Produce educational PSA’s and videos

Please join us in the fight to save lives! Your tax-deductible donation of any amount will go a long way in helping to end the suffering caused by preventable hospital-acquired infections.

At ASAP, we are committed to doing the work, but we can’t do it alone.
