Mission:
Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre is dedicated to cultivating, preserving and performing the rich diversity of Spain's cultural arts - flamenco, folkloric, classical and escuela bolera (18th century court dances), as well as poetry and dance dramas. The Company vision is to promote and celebrate Spanish culture through performances demonstrating the central role Spain has played in cross-cultural fertilization, with the goal of emphasizing cultural relationships over cultural differences.

The Company brings the "Power of Dance Theatre" with critically acclaimed repertoire performed in theaters throughout New Jersey and the greater Tri-State area. Alborada also provides Arts-in-Education programs for K-12 schools, colleges, libraries, museums and corporations as well as community outreach programs for the elderly and at-risk youth.
Results:
Alborada brought the beauty and rich diversity of the Spanish cultural arts to over 13,900 people in NJ in 2011, via our full-stage theater productions, Arts-in-Education presentations, community outreach programs and other events. We performed 2 assemblies in financially underserved schools in Plainfield and Newark, supported by a $2000 grant from Target.

Our newest home season production “Spain - The Trail of Gold”, performed on October 22, 2011, considered the impact of Spanish exploration on the indigenous people of the Americas and the Africans who were there as slaves.

I try to attend all their performances in my area. The well executed choreography is original and brings out elements of flamenco well researched and rarely displayed by other companies. Alborada embraces diversity, unifies traditions, and celebrates the gypsy experience. Educational, ... more »
