Description: Akili Dada is an international Non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that the next generation of Africa's leaders includes women from diverse economic backgrounds. We achieve this by:

* Providing scholarships and leadership training to bright young women scholars from impoverished families.
* Connecting these future leaders to a growing network of peers and professional Kenyan women who serve as mentors.

We believe that:

* Justice is served when there is a diversity of leaders and voices at the policy making table.
* Access to education and leadership training is critical to women from underprivileged backgrounds in order for them to be able to transform society.

Through these efforts Akili Dada is creating a core of educated and empowered young women who are positioned to be part of the next generation of African leaders.

Target demographics: Young women from underprivileged backgrounds, beginning when they are in secondary school (age 13-17) and continuing into their young adult life.

Direct beneficiaries per year: We currently serve 42 young women, of whom 23 are receiving full scholarships to secondary school, 8 are receiving all components of our leadership training program except the scholarship, and 11 have graduated from secondary school and are either in university or are currently applying to attend.
