Pratham has been an important organization in our lives. Education frees us and brings beauty into our lives. To be able to give that gift to others gives me such joy. And Pratham does it all with such a dedicated team and uses all its resouces well.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

A trip my husband made to visit a Pratham school in India.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The dedication of volunteers here in the States.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

enthusiastic and hard working.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

educate more children. The model itself is brilliant.

Pratham's impact is hard to overstate. Using relatively limited resources (annual budget is under $20 million) Pratham has managed to reach tens of millions of children and has brought India appreciably closer to the 60-year aspiration of ensuring universal childhood literacy in India.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Working with teachers and grass-roots volunteers in India who help make the difference and working with volunteers and donors in the US who make Pratham's remarkable work possible.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Increase the resources available to tell the Pratham story, both its successes and the challenges still remaining and the need to support Pratham and other organizations supporting primary education in India.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Seeing their impact of Pratham programs on the children and the excitement and hope it creates in the children and their families.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Committed and dedicated to making a difference in the lives of the millions of children that they reach.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Focus on its goals including the ambitious Read India program which aspires to reach 100 million children over three years. Pratham should focus on doing its job of reaching the children rather than curtailing programs to match resources available.

Ways to make it better...

Pratham did more to chronicle its impact on the millions of children directly affected. The focus of the program, as it should be, is on the children, but it would be nice if more inspirational success stories are chronicled and shared with donors.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Maintaining the financial support needed to achieve Pratham's and India's educational goals.

One thing I'd also say is that...

It is difficult to think of many things more critical than educating primary school children. These children are our future. Pratham has one of the most cost-effective and large-scale approaches to eradicating this scourge of illiteracy. Please help!

I am impressed with the tremendous impact Pratham's work is having on an entire generation, and with how effectively funds are being utilized. It is highly gratifying to know that I have a role in shaping and fulfilling the dreams of this generation.

Pratham is very efficient and don't waste too much on admin cost. They do very grass root work and help to get the education to those kids who don't have access or cant afford it.. Great work,, thanks.

Pratham's mission of 'Every child in school and learning well' and its execution of its programs is absolutely commnedable. Having worked in the slums and rural areas in India, i am very familiar with the daunting challenges of effecting change in extremely abject conditons. Pratham's fast track literacy pack is India's hope and our hope for millions of disadvantaged children half a world away.

Very Disappointed by this charity organization!! This organization needs serious help and intervention. The organization was started with a great intent and vision. However, as 2010 approaches, Pratham is still far from achieving its original goal of seeing all children reading and reading well. The organization has started to take short cuts to meet its vision. The curriculam has been modified (Read India) to quickly hit the numbers, rather than to really teach children quality education. The leadership is weak, power centric and there are little or no avenues to provide feedback to the people at the top. This organization has the potential to achieve very great results; if there is better mechanism for selection of leaders (rather than simply looking at who will write the biggest check). The volunteering opportunities are not very structured; and volunteers can be better leveraged.

I was first introduced to Pratham when I was in middle school, about 6 years ago. Although I was young, the Pratham family took me in as one of their own and allowed me to volunteer with them whenever possible. It has been a rewarding 6 years with the organization. I even had a chance to visit a Pratham school in India, and it was an experience I will never forget, the amount of hard work and dedication volunteers put into the organization here and in the schools in India is just amazing. And everything seems to pay off when you see kids in school learning and growing to be a part of the educated society around them. Pratham is a wonderful organization that I see myself being a part of for a very long time, until all of India's children are in school and learning well!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the people involved and the amount of commitment and dedication they have for the cause. I also enjoy that it is an organization geared for education for children. I love that it gets kids of every age involved in its efforts, they are very welcoming.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

extremely helpful and caring individuals with whom I have made strong relationships with. It's not always the same people, which is great, because there are always new volunteers around with a lot of enthusiasm which makes us all excited to do what we do.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

most probably reach its goal of getting every child in school and learning well in India within its estimated goal time! It could get a whole lot of kids living in destitution off the streets and into school where they can learn to read and write.

I was first introduced to the Pratham organization during its early years in Houston and have seen enrollment of students in India grow from a relatively small number to more than one million. It has also expanded to many states throughout that country. The program not only helps children scholastically, it teaches them social skills and encourages creativity. Equally important, Pratham trains teachers from the community, giving them a sense of purpose as well as respect. Education improves the lives of the children and their families, giving them hope for a better future. Pratham can be proud of its accomplishments, and I recommend the organization for the InDiya Shine Award.

I have been active with Pratham since 1998 and found it to be an outstanding NGO contributing to improve education in India. While in the US I was involved in raising funds for Pratham activities. Now that I have moved to Pratham, besides raising funds I am also involved in the management of Pratham Mysore. Thanks to decentralization of Pratham, we are able to experiment with different strategies while still following the directions of the head quarters.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have seen the benefits of this NGO from the grassroots to the national level. At grass roots slum children who otherwise would not have any solid foundation to attend schools are in a better position to complete their high school education.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The poorest of the poor get the benefit of this NGO. This NGO has the ability to bring about systemic changes in India's outdated education system.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

The volunteers are simply superb and dedicated. Staff are also putting long hours. Some volunteers go out of their ways to support the cause of Pratham.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Pratham could hire more teachers and expand balavadis to even more parts of India. They can do more experimentation and demonstrate how to manage demonstration schools in different parts of India. There is no limit to what Pratham can do with more funds.
