What an amazing organization! I cannot say enough good things! The work the Playwrights Project does for the San Diego community is so wonderful. What a joy and a treat to get to see the imaginations of San Diego youth come to life.

Not only was I amazed at the playwright work but also the work of the actors and producers.
The productions I saw seemed incredibly professional and well beyond my

Playwrights Project is a fantastic organization which helps build literacy and communication skills among students through theater and playwriting programs. Not to mention the confidence it builds in our youth! Playwrights Project has been around for 25 years and has reached more than 375,000 students and audiences with its writing residencies, professional productions and the California Young Playwrights Contest.

The Great!

Playwrights Project produced my first play as a teenager (winning the California Young Playwrights Contest) and they helped direct the course of my life to become a playwright. Over the years I served as a volunteer and then a board member and I have also been commissioned as a professional playwright to write plays about special populations that the organization works with - immigrants, foster youth, etc.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Build more board members and donors to augment the organization's infrastructure and get the word out more about these amazing programs.

Playwrights Project provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity for young playwrights: the chance to see their words come alive onstage, employing professional actors, directors, designers, and mentors to allow what once resided only in their imaginations to become a physical reality.

The Great!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

give them more funding so that they could expand their programs.

Playwrights Project is an amazing organization that teaches playwriting to youth and seniors in San Diego county.

Playwriting residencies allow for creative expression in schools where that freedom gets more and more restrictive with current test-driven curriculum. I have seen it help
English learners explore the language in a way that is more visual and conversational...more familiar and appealing to them.

It also exposes students to the world of theatre and the personal empowerment that can be found there. I just finished a residency where a student created a play expressing abuse that she has been experiencing at home. The play will be used in future therapy sessions and establishing her case for removal to a safe home.

I love this program and worked to bring it to my own daughter's school...for her entire 6th grade. They loved it!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Work. My own daughter's education. The benefit of my community.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

None.
