I have many years of experience with several different organizations, and the people of PLACE meet the highest standard of service that I have ever experienced in my life. Recently, at the WAV complex in Ventura I was visited by some of the PLACE team members from Minnesota, and during the 15 or 20 minute conversation, I felt personally

The Great!
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... I've enjoyed seeing how this nonprofit organization successfully uses green technology in their real world projects, so that people will hopefully and eventually accept this technology as "normal", so that it will be used regularly in the future.
Ways to make it better!

As a Resident Artist of the one of a kind WAV in Ventura, I can say that PLACE has set the bar high for a new way of living. PLACE conceptualized a new type of creative and caring neighborhood, and the results have surpassed any of my dream like expectations. The orchestration is no less beautiful than a symphony with co-creative minds working together to make this world a better place. I am honored to call The WAV my home and continue to create art which hopefully will benefit my community and environment. PLACE has changed lives and will continue to do so for many years to come.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... their ability to create communities which change lives.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... PLACE is incredibly creative and has meticulous follow through.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... I have met nearly all members of the PLACE staff and they are diverse in talents to take vision to reality.
Ways to make it better!
  • If I had to make changes to this organization, I would… Add more team members to increase the success of current and future projects.

Our family relocated thousands of miles in the hope of being part of something new and something great; a community of working artists living in affordable, eco-friendly residences in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. We have not been disappointed, and indeed our experience has exceeded all hopes. A huge amount of ingenuity has clearly been put into both the project as a whole and each individual aspect, from the design of the living spaces to maximise natural light to the selection of artists to ensure a balanced yet diverse community of individuals and families. The creating of a community, both in the bricks and mortar (a phenomenal achievement in itself) and in the people who are now living here, signals a radical yet brilliant vision. The lives of all those involved have been deeply enriched. These benefits are apparent after only a few months of the project being operational. The long-term postive impact on the community and the surrounding society is likely to be immeasurable.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... many ways, both large and small. As residents of the WAV community, our lives are affected by the environment PLACE has created for us in three ways; when in our own home, when in the shared spaces in the complex, and when with fellow WAV artists.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... the way in which the sheer, uninhibited splendor of the project's vision infects all who encounter it with optimism and energy.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... always able to combine excitement in the large scale of the project with loving consideration of each individual's needs, and to realise there is no contradiction between the two.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... have found a way to put the extra money to great use, either in this project or the next. PLACE seems to have an uncanny skill for wringing the maximum value out of each cent.
Ways to make it better!
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... keeping a unique project afloat and on course during a crippling recession.

I am living! I do not feel afraid. I have found a space that is understanding of who I am. An Artist. I am GREATFUL for the oppportunity to create history. To be alive and creating a home for my five year old son, Jubal-Lee. I am challenged each month to work hard to provide for my family and i am rewarded each month with a home and art studio at the WAV! This month (03.05.10) I invite two younge emerging artists to show at My Peacock Party Art Walk and next month i showcase Recycled Art. All thanks to PLACE, and a vision, and the means to manifest!

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... Their ability to think of all the details and be compassionate toward humanity and the environment.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... The Diversity!
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Intellectual and kind and happy.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Build Artist Housing All Over The World!
Ways to make it better!
  • If I had to make changes to this organization, I would… Educate everyone about the trash and recycling. When I empty my recycling i still see a lot of trash.
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... Negative views and oppinions of the outside community.
  • One thing I'd also say is that... Chris and Elizabeth are unique and always welcome in my home.

I just moved into the WAV building as a tenant, and just wanted to hurry and tell the world what a magnificent PLACE this is. Chris Velasco has created an ideal center for artist to inhabit. The WAV project is the dream home of every artist. It is so inspiring to see your neighbors happy, helpful, and dedicated to their ideals. Nothing can stop the group of artist living in the WAV project from being successful with their projects and giving back to their community. Julinya Vidigal De Vince

The Great!
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... provide the parking spaces necessary for the great commercial spaces in the ground level.
Ways to make it better!
  • One thing I'd also say is that... Chris Velasco is committed to everything he promises.
