I have worked with Kathy for several years taking injured birds in for her care. She cares about each and every one and the quality of care is excellent. And somehow she finds the time to teach the general public about wild life, especially birds. She is just excellent with kids--entertaining while educating. Her devotion to wildlife is extraordinary

Thank you so much to Kathy and Phoenix Wildlife Center not only for helping wildlife in need, but also for educating the public how to co-exist with wildlife and helping to train new area rehabilitators. Since 2008, Kathy has been taking Lights Out Baltimore birds found in downtown Baltimore city injured after colliding with glass and windows. Lights Out Baltimore volunteers collect data on the number of birds are killed in the downtown Baltimore area through collisions with glass. She has helped over 200 birds in need just through Lights Out Baltimore (and even found a wonderful home for a stray kitten we found). These 200 birds/one cat is only the tip of the iceberg, Phoenix Wildlife Center gets a steady stream of calls from the general public. Thank you to Phoenix Wildlife Center for its extremely important work and tireless efforts to help animals in need.

Late friday night, my girlfriend and I saw an opossum standing in the middle of the road. From the blood on it and the ground it was obvious that it had been hit by a car. We turned around and tried to wave cars around while we tried to figure out what to do. not all the drivers saw us trying to wave them over and the opossum got hit at least two more times. We called our local animal control and their after hours message directed us to call 911 for injured wild animals. The officer who came helped us move the opossum to the bushes on the side of the road 'to let nature take its course.' We were all sure the 'possum was on its last legs. When we checked back in the morning it was still there and still alive and breathing. We had to do something. We called a few local rescue groups and were directed to call the Phoenix Wildlife Center by one of their answering machines. We called and kathy picked up and told us how to get it safely and bring it right over to get checked out. When we got there she not only took the opossum in, she let us see the first part of the treatment of his wounds. We also learned that our fears of rabies should have been much lower and were educated on the finer points of opossum handling. We are looking forward to finding out the 'possum's outcomes in a few days and were quite amazed at Kathy's knowledge of wild animal trauma care. If we'd known what we have learned last night, that poor little opossum would'nt have gotten hit even once more and we could've had him bustled off to the phoenix center first thing.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and grateful that we were willing to help by bringing them an injured wild animal.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

grow into a state wide network of dedicated employees, volunteers and community members all working together to keep our native wildlife from being so badly impacted by the encroachment of people.

I just think Kathy and her team is so helpful and caring of the wildlife they assist. Her knowledge far exceeds anyone I have ever know.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the way Kathy and her team are so willing to help with the smallest of issues the general public may have. I don't know what we would do without their love and care of these wonderful creatures in our area! They are a blessing.
