I had the honor of placing in the genre bending experiment of Philadelphia area songwriters being paired with area choirs. To this day, it is one of my most rewarding musical moments. The songwriters varied from Country to Pop to Alternative to Gospel. The choirs varied from high school choirs with over 100 members to women choirs and gospel choirs. The writers had a chance to be involved with the arrangers at practice sessions with the choirs, getting a behind the scenes look at the process of developing an arrangement. The choirs got to hear first hand from the writers about creative process. Hundreds of musicians gathered and created a unique experience of shared expression. Several members of the audience approached me at the end of the evening to tell me they were so moved by the performances. The most constructive comment I can give is that there should be much more of these opportunities. I know that the economy is in a recession and it takes funds to run an organization with big aspirations. but the Arts are a reflection of our society that need to be developed and fostered. Do we really want reality TV will be our biggest contribution to the culture?

As stated above, I would suggest more creative opportunities. The past contests and experiences have left participants and audiences wanting more.

The Philadelphia Songwriters Project provides emerging songwriters an opportunity to be heard and showcased in some of the best music venues on the east coast. As an 18 year old songwriter, I was given the opportunity to play with other songwriters for shows that helped me evolve my skills and bring new music to people for their entertainment and enjoyment.

This also provides a great service to the community, to allow them a platform on which to hear talent that they probably would never have a change to hear. I am grateful to them for providing this chance to perform and grow and to bring music to the community.

opportunities to learn and perform in the venues provided by the association.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

extend it's outreach to artists and the community to get the word out about the organization. This could be done through an enhanced website and use of social media like facebook and twitter.

The summer of 2010 was a summer to remember for my band and myself. We were lucky enough to of one a spot in the Philadelphia Songwriters Project summer festival tour. The project was well organized and filled with a helping, loving and respectful staff - Very important to a client/band. The shows were great and exposure was excellent. Any questions were always answered honestly and on point. Its never easy being in a traveling band but The Project really did its best in making it as comfortable and fun as possible.

I would of liked to have seen one or two more people doing field work. Being at shows, making calls, having meetings. Seems like they got over whelmed at times.

I'm a singer/songwriter, and I entered the Philadelphia Songwriters Project contest. I was lucky enough to be chosen as a finalist and ended up being one of the four winners. As a winner I was able to play at some phenomenal venues and open for some big artists, and this experience was a huge boon to my career. Each event was well organized and I felt like I was really important to Dena and everyone else involved. This is an organization that really puts songwriters first, and is dedicated to making the music community a better place.

As the revenue involved in the music business declines rapidly, there are increasingly less business-minded people interested in helping new artists develop their careers. The Philadelphia Songwriters Project works hard to provide pivotal opportunities for hard working musicians who are struggling to get their voices heard. Musicians and music lovers alike have everything to gain from this type of organization.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

being able to perform in front of a sold out crowd at the Keswick Theatre, which was far and away the largest crowd I had played to date.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

start branches in other cities as well.
