I am a Chaplain for the California State prison system. I retired as the chaplain at the R J Donovan State prison in San Diego, CA. When I retired, this prison had 4800 inmates housed in 5 separate facilities. The State of California provides only one Protestant chaplain to serve all men on all facilities. Pastors to Prisoners provided me with an ordained volunteer yard pastor to spend full time on each facility. This meant that each facility could have religious program 5 to 7 days a week instead of the 1/2 to one day I could provide by myself. Pastors to Prisoners exists to provide monetary support for these home missionaries and allow tax deductable donations to support their mission. Pastors to Prisoners is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability. (ECFA) PTP is deserving of suppport by all Christians who want to see an inter denominational ministry to prisoners. Their current annual income is about $100,000 a year. This provides minimal support for 8 Yard pastors. 6 at Donovan, (one for Spanish Ministry) and 2 at Centinella State prison in El Centro, CA. Chaplain Buzz Brewer (chaplinbuz@aol.com)
