PIQE is more than just a parent engagement program, but rather a generational social movement creating a college going culture for populations generally not served. As a Board Member, I take pride in the tremendous opportunity PIQE offers families throughout the country, and I am honored to champion its mission, vision, goals, objectives, and deliverables. I applaud the team of leaders, staff, volunteers, schools, community advocates, and families, who truly value making a positive difference in the educational outcomes of our children. We must invest in our future generations to ensure America stays strong and provides opportunities for all children to lead productive lives. PIQE has proven, over its 25 year history, that caring parents in partnership with schools, will achieve successful results for children, so we must support the legacy and continue to energize the movement.

The PIQE Program is recognized in the California State Univerisity system as an exemplary parent involvement program serving lingusitically and culturally diverse communities. Due to PIQE's reputation, Fresno State teacher candidates have offered to work with PIQE to gain training in parent involvement since having such skills are essential for teachers working in diverse communities. The PIQE staff are often invited to serve on conference panels or as guest speakers due to their epertise on how to work effectively with lanuage minority families. In addition, PIQE has provided its best practices to numerous schools in Fresno Unified School District. As such, PIQE is highly regarded in the the Fresno region.

Being a PIQE's facilitator is my paycheck, not for the stippend, it is for the big opportunity to share with the community, and empower parents. Putting parents in action, is having children in College.

I am a retired educator from the Los Angeles Unified School District. I began to volunteer with Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE) as a facilitator for parent workshops the year that I retired - 2008. I have worked with them ever since and am consistently struck by their professionalism and their dedication to providing parents with practical, usable tools so that they may assist their children on their academic path. Another aspect of the organization that is especially impressive is the dedication to the academic success and college trajectory of students whose parents they serve. PIQE is continually re-evaluating their program based on parent input and changing requirements.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Reviewing data from parent feed-back and from student college acceptances and graduation provided to PIQE.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Investigate additional ways to publicize the efforts and success of the PIQE Program to more school principals (who have to agree to pay for the program).

I have known Piqe for over one year. The difference that makes in the families and children are great. They should have this program as a class for the parents so they could understand much better all the changes and what they need to do for their children

I have known about PIQE for years now and have volunteered in their San Diego office. Throughout my college career I was always amazed as to how PIQE targets a community which is often overlooked, minority parents and the tremendous impact they have in the professional success of their children. I have extensively worked to help underprivileged youth achieve higher education goals through mentorship programs and community outreach, but the parents are a big part of the educational journey of minority students. As a future educator I have seen the impact that parents have in the lives of my students and PIQE is one of the programs which helps students and their families achieve the success they deserve.

I started looking for an organization to volunter, I wanted a program that made a difference for the people in my community... and this programs does that. It gives the parents valuable tools to navigate the school system in a way that a parent ends up being more proactive in their childrens' education and it gives them resources to encourage and help their children to attain higher education. At the end when you get the parents involved and they understand their responsibilty and power to overcome challenges as a family that they may be presented with, you build a better student, school and a community. This is a program that truly makes a difference.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I experience the results of this organization week by week as the course progresses, the parents are eager for the next session and to put in to practice what they just heard. At the end of the program they know that their child has the possibility to attend college or University.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

If I had to make any changes it would be, to have this program available to all the parents everywhere.

I've had the pleasure to work with PIQE for about 6 six years and I must say that this program makes a big difference in our community. I've been a facilitator, educating students and parents and conducting workshops for those parents interested in making a difference in their children's education. It gives me hope to see parents so engaged in the workshops and willing to take the time, out of their busy schedule, to attend. Most of them would go directly after work, some still in their work uniforms and so eager to learn more about the educational system. I really enjoyed making a difference in my community and I will continue to support PIQE in giving every child the chance of a college education.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I've personally experienced the results of this organization by seeing students that were "touched" by the PIQE program walking as college students at the CSU, Fresno campus. I have personally helped some of them with Admissions, Financial Aid and scheduling. I truly believe PIQE was a big contributor to this outcome.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

If I had to make changed to this organization, I would make it a requirement for every elementary, middle and high school in the United States to have the PIQE program at least once every academic year.

I came in contact with PIQE through a professional colleague who spoke so enthusiastically about the organization that I decided to accept an invitation to one of the parent graduations. I immediately understood what all the hype was about. The graduating speeches were powerful and moving. These parent had become empowered to be apart of their kids education, and more. Often it was the only graduation these parent had been a part of. It was a very positive environment and families were all very proud of the parents that completed the program.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I worked with a group of parents before and after some of them had participated in PIQE's program and the difference was very apparent. Upon graduating they felt more confident to become engaged and tackle issues facing their community head on.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would make the program more affordable to schools so they choose to participate and maybe even make it available to other groups of parents without being affiliated to a school. Also, I would improve PIQE's name recognition. I do realize, however, that this would require significant funds.
