I have served on the Parent Aid board for 2 years and give my time
because it is a great organization making a difference in our community.
We currently have the only in home specialists making home visits in this
area n our community and it goes a long way in strengthening
families and preventing abuse, which is our mission. Merry B.

I have served on the Board of Directors for Parent Aid for 12 years. I have remained involved with this organization for so long because it truly makes a difference in the lives of children and families in Pima County, Arizona. Parent Aid provides in home services to equip families with skills to avoid child abuse before it happens. The staff really care about making a difference and they do so on a daily basis.

Parent Aid is truly a grass roots organization whose mission, to serve the community by educating parents before abuse happens, perfectly fills a need that has been created in the present day economic environment. Today's limited fiscal support goes to intervention and removal of children from abusive situations and not to prevention in the first place. Parent Aid serves those who have not yet aggreived to the point of governmental intervention and the governmental supported services that come with their involvement. Parent Aid allows families to break the cycle of abuse by providing education and support before it becomes a part of the family dynamic. More than anything is prevents the next generation of parents, today's children, from being victimized and conditioned to accept abuse in any form as an appropriate parenting tool.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my time with this organization by meeting and hearing the clients and how their outlook as parents has been altered.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

grow it to serve as many communies as possible. I would also work to spread the ideal of prevention by supporting parents and parent-to-be before they resort to or more likely, recycle the concept of abuse to achieve desired results in their children.

Cool organization that works hard to deal with the very BIG problem of child abuse in our country. I've been to their special event and heard family testimonials from those who Parent Aid has worked with. Sounds like it is working, but we need more Parent Aids and more focus on prevention.

For a relatively small, local non-profit agency, Parent Aid makes a LARGE difference in the lives of the families and children they serve. The counseling, education, modeling and support services provided by dedicated staff members empower families to learn, grow and develop in healthy and productive ways.

I have served on the board for 14 years and have experienced first hand what a wonderful group of board members and staff Parent Aid is blessed with. The growth of this organization is unstoppable and has served our community with pride and commitment. I am honored to have been given the opportunity to serve and be involved.

There was a period of time in our organization that I had to serve as interim director and was able to experience all the daily woes of the operation.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would try to find a way that we could have more family specialists since we always seem to have a waiting list of families that are in much need of our services.

Parent Aid has an exceptional record for helping families understanding their children and how to be great parents. The Parent Aid Board is very dedicated and is always ready to step up and perform whatever task is required of them.

Each year the board puts on one of the most profitable
fundraising events in Tucson. This year's event "WeCare 2011" is in the final planning stage and will take place on April 30th.

I've served on the Parent Aid board in various capacities going on 10 years. Over time, this association has come to represent the most meaninful thing in my life aside from my own family. To me, the board members and staff actually ARE a second family. Parent Aid provides free of charge in-home services (our Parent Partner Program) for up to one year to families with a mission of strengthening these families and preventing child abuse. Participation in PPP is voluntary and we view it as a cooperative effort with mutual goals of providing a brighter future for kids and for the family as a whole. We also conduct parenting classes and family workshops throughout our community as a way of furthering our outreach to those who cannot participate in the Parent Partner program. I've worked with many different people in many different business-related environments over 40+ years but I have never worked with a group of individuals - both board members and staff - who are so willing to surbordinate their own egos or personal agendas for the good of a mission and always to the benefit of Parent Aid. They are all dedicated, thoughtful and truly hard-working in the interests of our families. I could not be more proud to serve with each and every one. In almost every business enviroment, you will hear jargon that's supposed to promote team work and a team spirit, to unite all in harmonious efforts on behalf of worthy causes and beneficial goals. In many instances, it's just that - jargon! But, at Parent Aid, team work and well-coordinated, thoughtful efforts toward commonly shared and agreed upon goals to benefit our families are a reality each and every day.

Through joint efforts of board members w/ our current Exec. Dir. who joined us several years after I started on the board, we have doubled the revenue from our annual benefit, reduced our dependency on grants from gov't entities, expanded our programs to include more outreach w/parenting classes and added the family workshops. We have signficantly increased the annual hours spent per annum on staff member development and education, and generally improved the infrastructure which supports our programs.

While we are very proud of what we have accomplished and the progress we have made, our goal is always to reach more families while maintaining/improving the level of quality and efficacy in our programs. So, we must continue emphasis on fund-raising issues to be able to increase staff numbers as well as to bring new program elements online, providing that they complement what we already do. We'd also love to welcome new board members willing to lend their expertise and share our passion for Parent Aid!

I believe in the mission of Parent Aid, and know first-hand that the staff is a dedicated group of professionals working to improve the lives of children and families throughout our community. Of the many nonprofit agencies I've worked with in the past, most utilize more of the funding for administrative costs. Parent Aid really utilizes the money in the programs the funding was intended, which allows them to assist more families. I have donated to this organization since moving to Pima County and volunteered at annual events. It seems to me that competing for funding with numerous other organizations is the biggest challenge. Specifically, competing against larger entities who have moved into providing similar services is especially challenging.

The work they do is valuable to our community, so establishing a dedicated funding source or sources would benefit this small organization greatly.
