Pachamama Alliance

Rating: 4.97 stars   68 reviews

Issues: Environment

Location: The Presidio Bldg. 1009, Ground Level P.O. Box 29191 San Francisco CA 94129 USA

Mission: To empower indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest to preserve their lands and culture and, using insights gained from that work, to educate and inspire individuals everywhere to bring forth a thriving, just and sustainable world.
Results: For nearly 20 years, we have worked with the indigenous people of the South-Central region of the Ecuadorian Amazon Basin. During this time, our indigenous partners have successfully resisted all attempts to drill oil in their territory. However, our indigenous partners have requested that we change the "dream of the modern world," shift our relationship to the Earth and its resources, so that the threat of oil exploitation in the Amazon disappears. So, for the past 10 years, we have delivered educational programs to thousands of participants, helping them awaken to the needs of our time, and become inspired to take action for a just and sustainable future.
Target demographics: Indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest, and pro-activist leaders from all over the world
Geographic areas served: Ecuador and Around the World
Programs: We provide funding for numerous workshops and assemblies so that indigenous communities of the Ecuadorian Amazon are fully informed about plans for oil development in their lands, and so that their voices calling for territorial preservation were clearly heard. Our program Jungle Mamas improves maternal & family health in Achuar communities by providing Clean Birth Kits and educational workshops on birthing practices, and neonatal health. Jungle Mamas also builds composting toilets to maintain healthy water for communities. Our Awakening the Dreamer Symposium wakes up individuals everywhere to how the way we live impacts the whole world around us, including the Amazon rainforest. Our Up to Us engagement pathway provides opportunities for Symposium participants to continue to take action to create a world where our indigenous partners no longer have to struggle to keep their rainforest home safe.

This is a well run social profit that is making a huge difference in both preserving the rainforest in Ecuador and empowering indigenous people to protect their ancestral territories. Additionally, The Pachamama Alliance is raising the consciousness in industrialized countries to change the thinking around environmental sustainability, social justice and spiritual fulfillment. Paul Hawken has called The Pachamama Alliance the #1 NGO in the world.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

bring an enormous amount of consciousness and awareness to our culture in a way that brings both openheartedness and urgency to the global crisis surrounding environmental sustainability, social justice and spiritual fulfillment.

This organization is lean and mean that is to say it has a very big outreach on a small budget. Offers Awakening the Dreamer Symposium, Rainforest trips plus much more. Generating leading edge communications that ties together issues of the environment, social justice and spiritual fulfillment. Has created a powerful relationship with the Achuar community in Ecuador and has helped protect millions of acres of rainforest.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

big cities, remote indigenous villages and in the lives of 1000's of people.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

becoming more aware of many global issues and transforming my own life in the process.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very bright, dedicated people.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

find new ways to transform our culture through very powerful communications and media.

The Pachamama Alliance is making a huge impact in the world. They not only partner with indigenous people to protect their rainforest homelands, but also are making a huge difference in awakening people to how the way we in the "modern world" are living our lives is what is fueling the destruction of our natural environment, and to the many social injustices that exist in the world

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

having the message of environmental sustainability, spiritual fulfillment and social justice spread around the world virally, now in more than 28 countries.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

thank all the incredible, amazing volunteers and donors who are part of making the work possible.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the amazing people who dedicate themselves to the mission.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

amazing beyond words.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the dream of the modern world.

Ways to make it better...

I could have been involved earlier.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

there are so many opportunities emerging to fulfill on the mission, and insufficient capacity to take them all on.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Thank you, Pachamama!

The Pachmama Alliance has been my favorite charity for many years! It's one of the few that touches a wide spectrum of people around the world with a vision that keeps growing. Remarkable people and projects that truly make a difference!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

reaching a wide spectrum of young and old around the world! Awareness for building alliances is key.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

look at ways to bring on more full time staff to expand even larger.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the remarkable human beings who are involved. Lynne Twist has been my mentor for years!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

committed and enthusiastic!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

hire more staff plus build more solid alliances in the States as well as other countries.

Ways to make it better...

"I" would have brought even more people to the annual fundraiser.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

having the manpower to follow-up on the widespread interest in spreading the word.

One thing I'd also say is that...

the films that the organization has produced have created powerful messages. They are brilliant!

The Pachamama Alliance is one of the most profoundly moving organizations I have ever come across in my life. Hence my lifetime commitment to volunteer for them, champion their work and give my money to support them. They are working to address social justice issues, environmental sustainability and spiritual fulfillment and the intersections of these things in our world and life today. It's breathtaking.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Ecuador and the United States and know that they are working in many many more countries as well/

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

everything. The Staff, the donors, the events, the work, the trips. You name it.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

professional, dedicated and down-to-earth. Truly committed to their work.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

transform the way that the environment is stewarded and understood Globally. I have no doubt about that. They work in partnership with their co-founders: indigenous Amazonian and beyond in a way that I believe 100% will REALLY work.
