Results: 2013 Accomplishments In the South Indigenous Voices Speak Up for Preservation Provided funding for numerous workshops and assemblies so that indigenous communities of the Ecuadorian Amazon were fully informed about plans for oil development in their lands, and so that their voices calling for territorial preservation were clearly heard. People of Sarayaku Receive Restitution Payment Provided the people of Sarayaku with legal assistance to assert their rights to bind the government of Ecuador to comply with the 2012 favorable ruling by the Inter-American Court for Human Rights. The government paid reparations of more than one million dollars for damage to their land and people, and has committed to cleaning up the more than 3000 pounds of explosives left in their territory. Jungle Mamas Takes Huge Steps in Advancing Safe Motherhood Jungle Mamas trained 20 Achuar women in a community empowerment workshop. The 20 women will provide prenatal coverage to 47 Achuar communities. To date, Jungle Mamas has distributed 100 safe birth kits to women in approximately 30 communities. Impact Analysis Begins for the Southeastern Amazon Provided financial support for a major scholarly study at major Ecuadorian universities to research the impact of two divergent future scenarios in the southeastern Amazon—one of oil development and one of conservation. FP Brings Together Allies for International Workshop on Indigenous Rights Organizations from Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador who work to defend human and environmental rights, came together for an international workshop to explore key issues around prior consultation, right to compensation and socio-environmental monitoring. They also toured environmentally toxic areas polluted by oil spills. Amazon’s First Solar-Powered Transportation Network is Almost Ready After a year of preparation, a groundbreaking system of solar-powered boats and recharge stations covering over 40 miles of rivers in Achuar territory is soon to be completed. 2013 Worldwide Accomplishments Awakening the Dreamer Symposium Reaches 76 Countries. And, Pachamama Alliance developed the Up to Us engagement pathway for people to continue to take action after they have taken a Symposium. We partnered with organizations that are aiming at the root causes of two of the most pressing issues confronting the U.S. today—the corruption of our democracy and climate change. Partners: Move to Amend & Citizen's Climate Lobby. Amazon Journeys: 140 people participated in 10 separate deep-immersion journeys to connect with our indigenous partners in the Ecuadorian Amazon and the spirit of the rainforest itself.
Target demographics: indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest protecting their land and culture from oil exploitation
Geographic areas served: Ecuador and Around the World
Programs: We provide funding for numerous workshops and assemblies so that indigenous communities of the Ecuadorian Amazon are fully informed about plans for oil development in their lands, and so that their voices calling for territorial preservation were clearly heard. Our program Jungle Mamas improves maternal & family health in Achuar communities by providing Clean Birth Kits and educational workshops on birthing practices, and neonatal health. Jungle Mamas also builds composting toilets to maintain healthy water for communities. Our Awakening the Dreamer Symposium wakes up individuals everywhere to how the way we live impacts the whole world around us, including the Amazon rainforest. Our Up to Us engagement pathway provides opportunities for Symposium participants to continue to take action to create a world where our indigenous partners no longer have to struggle to keep their rainforest home safe.

I first came to know The Pachamama Alliance through an Awakening the Dreamer symposium in San Diego 2 years ago. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to be a part of this dynamic and inspirational organization that can truly make a different in our world. Attending that symposium was life-changing for me. I want to inspire others, especially my grandchildren, that we need to take care of each other AND our beautiful planet because -- we are all connected!

By becoming a volunteer, you are not dedicating your time to the Pachamama Alliance so much as becoming a part of it. The group makes inclusiveness a top priority which makes volunteers, donors, and staff all equally integral to the org's purpose.

Six years ago I attended a Pachamama "Awakening The Dreamer Changing The Dream Symposium", which changed my life. When I heard the question, "Does anyone want to learn to facilitate a Symposium?" I swiftly raised my arm, am now a Facilitator of many Symposia, have visited the Rainforest twice, and joyfully contribute financially on a monthly basis to the Pachamama Alliance. My money is invested in all ways that support, protect and benefit all life on Earth. No exceptions. I give the Pachamama Alliance the highest rating possible.

I would recommend this organization to everyone who would like to make a significant impact! Pachamama Alliance educates, inspires then empowers each person to be a part of their commendable vision, "... a world that works for everyone: a socially just, environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilled human presence on this planet ..." My first experience was in July 2011 at an "Awakening the Dreamer" Symposium. I learned more than I knew and wanted to become more involved. Soon, I will be attending a Facilitator Training. Next, perhaps, an eco-friendly trip to Ecuador. I love to be surrounded by a community of well-meaning, heart-driven, and action-oriented individuals. There is no greater need than our planet and there is no greater time than now! Join the Pachamama Alliance as a participant or volunteer. You will be glad you did!
