Pachamama Alliance

Rating: 4.95 stars   78 reviews

Address:

The Presidio Bldg. 1009, 2nd floor P.O. Box 29191 San Francisco CA 94129 USA

Mission:

To empower indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest to preserve their lands and culture and, using insights gained from that work, to educate and inspire individuals everywhere to bring forth a thriving, just and sustainable world.

Results:

For nearly 20 years, we have worked with the indigenous people of the South-Central region of the Ecuadorian Amazon Basin. During this time, our indigenous partners have successfully resisted all attempts to drill oil in their territory. However, our indigenous partners have requested that we change the "dream of the modern world," shift our relationship to the Earth and its resources, so that the threat of oil exploitation in the Amazon disappears. So, for the past 10 years, we have delivered educational programs to thousands of participants, helping them awaken to the needs of our time, and become inspired to take action for a just and sustainable future.

Target demographics:

Indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest, and pro-activist leaders from all over the world

Geographic areas served:

Ecuador and all over the World

Programs:

We provide funding for numerous workshops and assemblies so that indigenous communities of the Ecuadorian Amazon are fully informed about plans for oil development in their lands, and so that their voices calling for territorial preservation are clearly heard. Our program Jungle Mamas improves maternal & family health in Achuar communities by providing Clean Birth Kits and educational workshops on birthing practices, and neonatal health. Jungle Mamas also builds composting toilets to maintain healthy water for communities. Our Awakening the Dreamer Symposium wakes up individuals everywhere to how the way we live impacts the whole world around us, including the Amazon rainforest, towards bringing forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just human presence on this planet. Our Up to Us engagement pathway provides opportunities for Symposium participants to continue to take action to create a world where our indigenous partners no longer have to struggle to keep their rainforest home safe.

I truly enjoyed my summer interning with The Pachamama Alliance. Not only are the people very passionate about their work, but it creates a motivational setting to encourage others to understand the work that they do. This is an organization that I continue to follow even after I finished my internship!

The Pachamama Alliance is truly one of its kind. The thriving future of the human family and the entire community of Earth will owe a debt of gratitude to the tireless work of this organization. All the people I have ever met who are involved with The Pachamama Alliance carry a unique drive to create a more positive future, and share an embodied presence that inspires the world to join in that profound mission.

I first came to know The Pachamama Alliance through an Awakening the Dreamer symposium in San Diego 2 years ago. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to be a part of this dynamic and inspirational organization that can truly make a different in our world. Attending that symposium was life-changing for me. I want to inspire others, especially my grandchildren, that we need to take care of each other AND our beautiful planet because -- we are all connected!

They have created a true partnership with the indigenous people with learning and know-how being shared in both directions. The impeccable integrity of the leadership attracts responsible volunteers who teach and learn in deeply mutual exchanges for the benefit of our planet.

By becoming a volunteer, you are not dedicating your time to the Pachamama Alliance so much as becoming a part of it. The group makes inclusiveness a top priority which makes volunteers, donors, and staff all equally integral to the org's purpose.
