Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Environment, Forest Conservation, Natural Resources Conservation & Protection

Mission: To empower indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest to preserve their lands and culture and, using insights gained from that work, to educate and inspire individuals everywhere to bring forth a thriving, just and sustainable world.

Results: For nearly 20 years, we have worked with the indigenous people of the South-Central region of the Ecuadorian Amazon Basin. During this time, our indigenous partners have successfully resisted all attempts to drill oil in their territory. However, our indigenous partners have requested that we change the "dream of the modern world," shift our relationship to the Earth and its resources, so that the threat of oil exploitation in the Amazon disappears. So, for the past 10 years, we have delivered educational programs to thousands of participants, helping them awaken to the needs of our time, and become inspired to take action for a just and sustainable future.

Target demographics: Indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest, and pro-activist leaders from all over the world

Geographic areas served: Ecuador and all over the World

Programs: We provide funding for numerous workshops and assemblies so that indigenous communities of the Ecuadorian Amazon are fully informed about plans for oil development in their lands, and so that their voices calling for territorial preservation are clearly heard. Our program Jungle Mamas improves maternal & family health in Achuar communities by providing Clean Birth Kits and educational workshops on birthing practices, and neonatal health. Jungle Mamas also builds composting toilets to maintain healthy water for communities. Our Awakening the Dreamer Symposium wakes up individuals everywhere to how the way we live impacts the whole world around us, including the Amazon rainforest, towards bringing forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just human presence on this planet. Our Up to Us engagement pathway provides opportunities for Symposium participants to continue to take action to create a world where our indigenous partners no longer have to struggle to keep their rainforest home safe.

The impact the Awakening the Dreamer - Changing the Dream had on individuals in our community in the Sea to Sky Corridor of British Columbia, BC was simply profound. People from all walks demonstrated a deep connection with the materials throughout each phase & Swiamish residents touched by the event supported it through a heavy snow fall, a myriad of other conflicting events and many didn't want to leave the event afterwards, staying on to talk for hours about potential next steps. Our experience felt supported yet challenged us to work through the material as partners in the venture, inspiring a rich curiosity around each phase of the material, and we enjoyed the additional time spent Together working out the kinks [now ironed out by this highly accountable organization. Their integrity & forthrightness are a balm to the spirit & we have so much gratitude for our hearts have been blown wide by the material & intention behind it that mived through us all that day. THANK YOU FOR THIS TREASURED EXPERIENCE! We will host it again in the coming year

Pachamama Alliance is, in so many ways, the answer to the question I had long been asking: is there a single non-profit organization that resonates with my values and my Vision that I can align my life with? Last year, I realized that I was a member of numerous organizations that were all doing good work on the whole, but that I was doing little of that work myself. Though each organization had meaning for me, only Pachamama Alliance connected with me in a holistic, affirming, fully empowering way. It took a wake up call (literally) from a friend in Brazil to remind me what a jewel of the Amazon and what a great hope for the World the Pachamama Alliance is. And now I am all-in! I love Pachamama Alliance and the great colorful hope this organization brings to the World!

I first volunteered 45 years ago, and participated in my first political campaign 40 years ago. It wasn't until I connected with Pachamama Alliance two years ago I finally found a social enterprise that offered not just opportunities to serve and to do good, but also education in effective social and political change grounded in best practices from both ancient indigenous and contemporary wisdom teachings; support for building and sustaining local, engaged "pro-activist" community; and training and empowerment for individual volunteers to carry the alliance's message of environmental sustainability, social justice, and spiritual fulfillment to others around the world. I tear up thinking how long I've felt alone and isolated in my call to action for peace and justice, and how now with Pachamama Alliance I finally feel at home. This group is one in a million.

Pachamama Alliance is continually providing me with inspiration for my fledgling Nature program for kids.
Living in Zimbabwe there are daily reminders of how disconnected the majority of people are with Mother Earth and what She provides for us free. Unfortunately children tend to copy the example their parents' set. I would like to pass on the reverence for nature I have and which the Pachamama community is reteaching to the World

I think Pachamama is a phenomenal organization. They have created a wonderful training to get people engaged in making a difference. Everyone should go through their Awakening The Dreamer workshop. I've met great people who are highly committed, smart and who take action.
