Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Children & Youth, Philanthropy, Public Foundations

Mission: Our Military Kids provides substantial support in the form of grants to the children of National Guard and Military Reserve personnel who are currently deployed overseas, as well as the children of Wounded Warriors in all components and branches of military service. The grants from Our Military Kids pay for fees associated with athletic, fine arts, and tutoring programs. Keeping the children engaged in activities of their choosing, helps to relieve the stress of separation from the military parent by providing a positive distraction, minimizing emotional destabilization, building self confidence and enabling academic achievement.

Results: Through the generosity of its donors, Our Military Kids has provided nearly 53,000 grants totaling $21M to military children living in every state and U.S. territory. Parents have reported through periodic surveys that 80% noticed an increase in stress or anxiety in their children during deployments and 89% indicated that participation in the activity positively impacted their children by reducing some/all of their symptoms of stress. In addition, 99% reported that participation significantly contributed to the overall well-being of the entire family. For every dollar donated, 93 cents directly supports a child.

Target demographics: Military children aged 3 through 18 years of age.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Provided grant awards to cover fees for 3,500 military children.

Geographic areas served: Nationwide

Programs: sports, arts, camps and academic tutoring.

Thank you Our Military Kids Inc. My daughter was very happy to receive her $500 grant for dance. What made it more exciting for her was that the envelope was on her name! She is now attending Barbara School of Dance and enjoying ballet and hip hop. We truly appreciate your generosity!

Thanks to the OMK my two kids are able to practice their favorite sports. One is doing taekwando and the other one is doing piano. They both love what they doing and it helps me keep them occupied while their dad is deploy.

Our military kids is a great nonprofit organization that has helped many veterans including my family, cover the cost of extracurricular activities for our kids. Our kids have an outlet to express themselves via karate and it has been a tremendous blessing for them!
Thank you Our military kids!

My husband is currently deployed and our oldest son,he is 5, is taking him gone pretty hard. We were able to get funding for him to join a recreational hockey league which was very special and fun for him. It was a great way for him to feel closer to his dad who also loves hockey. My husband also loved the videos I sent him showing our son playing. I was very greatful and appreciated their help.

Getting the military kids grant for our two children was so helpful while my husband was deployed last year. It helped my kids have an activity to look forward to. This program is wonderful and we were so greatful for it. It's hard for kids when their parents are deployed so anything to get there mind off of it for awhile is great. Thank you!! Hopefully they are able to keep do this for all military kids dealing with deployment. The Tuttle's

What an amazing organization! I did not know about Our Military Kids until someone from my husbands unit told me about it. They were able to provide my youngest daughter 11 weeks of horseback riding lessons and my oldest was able to enjoy 5 months of violin lessons. The donors in our case was the Target Corp. I'm thankful for their support of our military families.

My name is Dee. I used this grant for swimming lessons and the use of an athletic club when ever desired, for my two sons. My family and everyone I know pretty much, grew up "poor". Most of us couldn't even afford the 70$ + funds to participate in everyday school sports or extra curricular activities/ field trips.I wanted to personally thank OUR MILITARY KIDS for this this gift of learning , knowledge and fun! THANKS again.

I would like to personally thank OUR MILITARY KIDS for gifting our two daughters the grant for activities at the YMCA while their father is in Kuwait for 6 months. We are in a financial hardship right now, and attempting to pay down debt while he is overseas. Our girls made the gymnastics team last year at the YMCA and the costs add up. By this grant, it takes a huge burden off of the expenses and allows the girls to continue their gymnastics journey, keeping them busy and occupied while dad is away (plus they have stories to tell dad about their improvements & setbacks....makes conversation with him fun).

So, again, thank you so very much OUR MILITARY KIDS for this wonderful gift.

My husband has now deployed 3 times. The first time my children were not old enough for the OMK Grant. The second and third time we have used the grants for gymnastics, swim, piano & acting classes. Just keeping my daughters busy have really helped with the separation that they girls have from their dad! I'm proud to have worked with this program and will support it always as a great thing for kids to enjoy extra stuff to keep them busy. I love that it is pretty wide open on what you can use it for and that it gives kids that may not always be able to extra stuff that opportunity.
