Our Military Kids is an amazing program that has helped so many families including ours.
While my husband was deployed to Iraq our daughter got to take dance lessons and our son played baseball all with the help from Our Military Kids. My daughter loved every minute of her first year of dance classes!! And it was great that our son had something to do with his friends and teammates to take his mind off of his daddy being away!

I can"t think of anything!
Every time I try to go through the army to use a program benefit to help families, I feel like I deal with nothing but red tape and problems processing my requests. I was incredibly surprised at how easy this charity, devoted to helping military families, was to use. I provided the information they asked for and my daughter got to spend the summer going to camp. She was thrilled. It provided me with much needed breaks as well since I am caring for 3 children on my own during my husband's year long deployment.

My daughter was much happier over the summer since she had something fun to look forward too and I got a break from parenting 3 children during my husband's deployment.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
allow for 2 activities during year long deployments (again). Give a 2nd chance as well. I applied for my other child to receive a grant but called to cancel it after my child decided that she wasn't interested in that activity. I called before the application was received so no money was sent out, I did not ask for the opportunity to try for a different activity but I was quickly told she would not quality for anything else.

This organization was so helpful to my children, who took horse back riding lessons with a grant for each one of them while my husband was deployed! It really helped keep my children's minds occupied and helped make the time of his 1 year deployment go much faster! He was deployed a couple years before this so we knew how long a year feels, especially when all you want is your loved one home safe with the rest of the family! Also my children felt very special with the packet that they sent to each one of them, it really was a wonderful experience for my 3 children to bond with the horses and experience something that we could never afford to have them do on our own! Thank you!!!!!

seeing my children's faces light up when they are learning how to ride a horse and take their minds off missing my husband even for a couple hours!

encourage people to be aware of the military families organization and resources!
Our Military Kids - what a wonderful organization!! My child was approved a grant to attend a wonderful camp in SC. An awesome opportuniy that would not have taken place if it wasn't for OMK Inc. We were beyond grateful to have received it, while while my husband was deployed. Our Military Kids Inc. understands our struggles and their continuous support went above and beyond our expectations. We, as a family continue to support it, since we know it's important to have these organizations support our children. With great respect the Garcia Family

Our Military Kids was fantastic! They provided a month of tuition for Ballet and Soccer for my daughters while my husband was deployed. The process was quick and easy and provided a little financial boost at just the right time. Probably most important was the fact that people recognize the toll a deployment can have on the family and provide help in a tangible way.

My unit served as the pilot program for Our Military Kids, INC. while we were deployed to Afghanistan. My Daughters were able to attend art school while I was gone. These grants gave my wife and I ease of mind during a sressful period knowing our children's minds were not alwas focused on Daddy not being home. It broarden my children's minds and influenced thier creative skills. I've watched this program grow not only ni Virginia but across the Army Guard and I tell my soldiers about it every chance I get. I've had Soldiers chlidren attend speacial needs, horseback riding, karate and several other sports and tutoring programs. This is an OUTSTANDING program!!!

My children received grants for math tutoring (a subject my husband usually helps the kids with, and that confused me) while my husband was deployed. When my husband got home, there were a number of opportunities to attend family friendly bonding events (circus, baseball, theater..).

Our Military Kids Inc. is an organization that supports children of deployed military personnel. They are a refreshing group as they offer the children opportunities to participate in unique programs or their own chosen activities. They not only offer, they cover the bill!! Three of my four children were able to benefit from the organization. (The 4th was only a toddler at the time.)
Our Military Kids is a great organization because they are leaders in providing fun "distractions" while their beloved parent or parents serve in the US Military.

My children were able to participate in gymnastics and track and field because of Our Military Kids, Inc. We also received invitations to attend other fun events such as professional football and basketball games, dinner and a concert, and so much more that I can't recall right now!

Our Military Kids is a wonderful non-profit, almost six years ago my father was deployed to Afghanistan and they awarded me a grant for art school. This program helped me and my other siblings cope with the stress of our father being in a combat zone, the ability to participate in an extra-cirricular activity made a large difference in my life. The people of Our Military Kids are always caring and eager to help others making them a strong and dedicated non-profit. They are always willing to listen and will guide you step by step through the process of applying for and receiving grants. Thank you Our Military Kids, and keep up the great work!

This non-profit helped me improve my art skills while helping relieve the stress of my father being deployed overseas.

This is an outstanding organization that offers great support to the families of deployed Military members. I've gotten more support from them since I've been in Kuwait than I have from my Unit who is stateside and is supposed to check on my son/family on a monthly basis. My family has yet to hear from anyone in my Unit.

Our Military Kids gave my son a grant to help pay for his tuition at tae kwon do. Also, they didn't forget my son after that! I received an e-mail with another opportunity for my son to receive tickets to a Washington Redskins game and that made him even happier knowing that his mom was able to help him even though she's away at the moment. I also received another e-mail for an event that I followed up on from here in Kuwait immediately and was able to get his name on the list yet again.

I wouldn't change a thing! The staff has been really helpful when I needed to call or e-mail and they respond promptly.
