The mission of our organization is to oversee and lead a coordinated system of care, delivering excellence to abused, abandoned and neglected children and their families in miami-dade and monroe counties.
The organization works through local community based organizations to provide foster care, adoptions and related services to the children and families of miami-dade and monroe counties. Our kids assessed 5,661 at-risk children this fiscal year, and safely diverted 2,344 of them from entering foster care. We found loving homes for approximately 279 children, and close to 2,500 since we began our work in miami-dade and monroe. Every child coming into our system of care now receives his or her first dental exam within 30days, in addition to undergoing a comprehensive physical, behavioral, and educational assessment. An intensive foster parent recruitment campaign launched has generated a 20% increase in available quality caregivers for our children. After a stringent review of our programs, policies, and procedures, we've been fully accredited by the council on accreditation (coa), an independent not-for-profit child and family services, and behavioral healthcare organization. The nurse case management (ncm) department works with community and pro bono providers to ensure that every child in our foster care family has access to quality medical, dental, vision, mental, and emergency health services. The department also provides ongoing training and support to our case managers and foster parents.

I enjoy working with Our Kids, more specifically Bunchy Gertner, who is a ray of sunshine. She organizes an annual toy drive for the children in foster care, as well as the youth who have aged out of foster care (ages 19-22). The later being what really sets her apart from other agencies. You see once these kids have aged out, no one really cares about them anymore, they are out on their own. This organization is a wonderful one to work with. I took part in wrapping gifts for the toy drive, I must have wrapped a thousand toys! I enjoy gift wrapping and I was very fortunate that Ms. Gertner gave me this opportunity to show off my skills. The people who are part of this program are truly angels.
