OFA has assisted nearly 100 families in adopting children from the Democratic Republic of Congo and now is working to help the many children who will not be adopted. They are building schools and providing clothing, food, diapers, formula, and access to medical care to orphans in several orphanages throughout DRC. OFA is 100% run by volunteers and every penny raised goes directly to the children -- no offices, no advertising budget, no staff salaries. It is truly a great organization and one that I am happy to support with my time and money.

My husband and I adopted our son through OFA in 2008. At the time, OPFA was quite small, and Daniel was the 7th child whose adoption was facilitated by Jilma and OFA. Jilma is an amazing, tireless force for the children of Congo, who has the best interests of the children and country above all else. While traveling with her, I watched in awe as she faced down bureaucratic obstacles and dificult personalities with grace and iron will. OFA continues to be the charity we choose to support first and most because we believe so entirely in the work that they are doing and in the tireless efforts of Jilma and her posse of volunteers.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My beautiful, loving and healthy child.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Enable Jilma to devote herself to this work fulltime -- though it would be impossible, as she refuses to take any pay for her thousands of hours, and she is highly valued in her "day" job as an attorney.

Our Family Adoptions is a great humanitarian organization. They are ran by volunteers only and have no paid staff what so ever. The volunteers work to provide food, medicine and clothing for the orphans of DRC. As a volunteer we are willing to beg anyone and everyone for money donations for these orphaned children. We want to raise awareness about this forgotten war torn country with more than 5 millioned orphan children and keep children from dying. Yes, I believe in the power of people and OFA volunteers are great people helping more great people, the Congolese children in DRC.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing children given life saving medications, infants having formula and not dying of malnutrition, mattresses purchased so children no longer sleep in the dirt or on concrete floors and so much more.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

To raise enough funds for our organization to hire a secretary/coordinator for our Director who works a full time job and runs this organization tirelessly. To do so would mean we could get documents completed quicker, coordinate deliveries better and keep all volunteers on up to date on legal changes that happen daily in DRC.

In 2007 OFA helped us bring home our daughter from DR Congo. In 2009, they helped us bring home our son. Their ethics and high standards are evident in all that they do. We were so impressed with them that I happily accepted their invitation to join the board of directors. OFA has gone above and beyond in their mission to help the orphans of DRC. The director works tirelessly to do all that she can to bring assistance to these orphans. OFA has provided food, families, medical assistance and more for these children.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I've traveled to DRC and experienced first hand the difference that the food and medical care provided by OFA means to a child.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Add more funding and more volunteers to make a greater impact on the orphans and people of DRC.

OFA facilitated the adoption of our third son. This was our third adoption in Africa. The difference between this adoption and our previous adoptions is the opportunity and passion imparted to stay involved and care for the children we left behind. As travelers we were encouraged to carry as little personal items as possible. We loaded our bags with baby formula and clothing for the children in the orphanages. My heart breaks daily for those kids and I am so thankful for the opportunity to work now as a volunteer for this organization--hopefully raising funds for OFA for many years to come and returning to DRC. This is an amazing group of tireless volunteers shepherding nervous families through the miraculous experience of adoption--and then on to the role as advocate and volunteer.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

gathering food/clothing for donations, chase bank fundraising, adoption, buying books for older children in an orphanage

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

honestly, nothing...maybe just more volunteers!

OFA is an amazing organization. My husband and I adopted a son and a daughter with OFA's help. All of the volunteers we worked with were professional, compassionate, prompt, and willing to go way above and beyond to help us. I cannot say enough positive things about OFA. I am committed to doing all I can to help OFA care for the orphans left behind in Congo. They are doing amazing work and I want to be part of it!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the joy and beauty in my children's eyes. Without the help of OFA, we wouldn't have our son and our daughter. I cannot imagine my life without them. I am forever grateful to OFA. I was also blessed to be able to see OFA's work firsthand while in Congo. I visited orphanages, took donations of books, food, clothing, and infant formula. I saw children getting medical care. I know that lives are forever changed because of OFA's work.

My wife and I adopted our son through OFA back in November and are in the process of adopting our daughter as well. We have also run a formula drive that raised over 100lbs of powder formula for the orphanages in Kinshasa, helped to provide and cover educational materials for older children, and contributed to the purchase of beans, rice, and fish to another orphanage. We have been so blessed to be a part of OFA over the past year and look forward to working with them for many years to come.

OFA has opened my eyes to the suffering of children in the Democratic Republic of Congo. While traveling to pick up my newly adopted son, I had to opportunity to visit and serve in several orphanages within the country.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The food, supplies and service OFA was able to provide make such a difference to the children not being adopted. It was great to see children brighten up at a new soccer ball to play with, and to be able to paint their dorm rooms to improve the appearance of their "home," and taking fresh fruit, veggies, bread, and eggs were a welcomed break from the standard of rice and beans or going hungry.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I love OFA and it's mission, and am so proud to be able to serve with them!

OFA is a one of a kind humanitarian organization that is lead by a wonderful women named Jilma Meneses. Jilma has been a volunteer for this organization for more than 10 years and has worked tirelessly for the people of DRC by supplying food, medicine, supplies and hope. Jilma has spread the word of the plight of the people in the Democratic Republic of Congo around the world and has drawn volunteers from all across the United States to help in her fight to save lives. While the #1 goal of OFA is to support multiple orphanages Jilma has helped many chldren find loving homes including our 2 that will be home later this spring. If Jilma had not worked so hard to help these children they most certainly would have died horrible deaths of starvation and disease. OFA has the highest standards of practice and holds to a strict code of conduct to show upmost respect to the Congolese people and their goverment. Jilma Meneses is a true HERO to me and the world.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have helped and particpated in fundraisers for formula, clothing, toys and money to support the many oprphanages in DRC. When I see pictures of children eating and babies having formula and without voluteering as a group and without Jilma's leadership these children would be among the thousands of children to die in this worn torn country.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Do whatever I could to increase awarenessof OFA and to find money that will help Jilma to be able to continue this monumental job that she does of saving the lives of the men, women and children of DRC.

My family and I used Our Family Adoptions to facilitate the adoption of our youngest child. Though this experience, we have been blessed to be a part of the OFA family. OFA is a network of volunteers working to bless the lives or disadvantaged orphans in the Democratic Republic of Congo. To date, they have delivered thousands of pound of formula, completed building projects, provided clean water, clothing, school scholarships and medication to hundreds of children.

We are so proud to be associated with this wonderful organization and would recommend them to anyone.
