We used OFA for the adoption of our third child. The experience was absolutely wonderful. It is completely run by volunteers and the director worked tirelessly on our behalf. I love the fact that OFA's primary goal is to help the orphans left behind in DRC and to that end, does not profit in any way from the adoption portion (or any part) of their program.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The adoption of our child, seeing hundreds of orphans receive clothing, food, mattresses, and education.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Establish a permanent feeding program where we could make monthly contributions to make sure orphanages were getting food so the children could eat every day.

OFA helped facilitate the adoption of our son Joshua in 2008. Jilma's passion for the children of DRC was evident from our 1st phone conversation. What makes OFA unique from other adoption agencies is that they are run by 100% volunteers! I can't imagine adopting again and not using OFA. Our process was gently and personally guided and I just know that no other agency could do what Jilma did and is doing for the children of DRC.

Our Family Adoptions is a wonderful organization that cares deeply about the people in the Democratic Republic of Congo. While they do help families in the States adopt, their purpose and vision extend far past adoption. As an adoptive family, we have felt through the entire journey that OFA isn't after our money; they are after our heart. They want to see people love the Congo and desire to invest long-term in seeing sustainable change happen there through serving, giving to, and loving those with needs that far surpass our own. While we entered this process hoping to bring two children home, we are expectant that once our adoption is complete, our relationship with OFA and DRC will only be beginning.

the process of adopting from the Democratic Republic of Congo and seeing others travel to bring their children home. Rather than just sending families to retrieve their children, Our Family Adoptions send families out to serve at various orphanages and administer humanitarian aid wherever needed.

OFA has opened my eyes to the suffering of children in the Democratic Republic of Congo. While traveling to pick up my newly adopted son, I had to opportunity to visit and serve in several orphanages within the country.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The food, supplies and service OFA was able to provide make such a difference to the children not being adopted. It was great to see children brighten up at a new soccer ball to play with, and to be able to paint their dorm rooms to improve the appearance of their "home," and taking fresh fruit, veggies, bread, and eggs were a welcomed break from the standard of rice and beans or going hungry.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I love OFA and it's mission, and am so proud to be able to serve with them!

A wonderful part of being a part of OFA is that I don't know which line to click under "your role" - all clients are also volunteers. The ethos and practical outworking of OFA's mission is truly that of a family with many members with many gifts supporting one another.

My husband and I are
in an adoption process which OFA is assisting us with. But, like the 50+ families who have adopted with OFA's assistance, we are committed to supporting orphans and those who care for them in the Congo (DRC).

We highly recommend OFA as an organization with true integrity, transparency, and commitment to making the very best of use of every $1 given.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I've witnessed children being rescued for deplorable conditions. I've seen adoptive families raise significant $ to go toward formula purchases for malnourished babies.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would snap my fingers and quadruple the number of skilled volunteers eager to give significant time to OFA's development over the next 10 years. Because OFA has no paid staff, an even larger base of volunteers is needed.

Jilma and OFA assisted in the recent adoption of my son from Democratic Republic of Congo. I traveled with a group of 10 families to bring him home. We did a lot of humanitarian work while we were there, including taking formula, buying food and mattresses for orphanages and painting orphanages. The OFA family is committed to providing aid for the most vulnerable in Congo.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the aid that was provided to orphans in a single trip.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

make a fund that could pay for an assistant for Jilma. She is beyond overworked and donates many hours each day to facilitate adoptions and organize humanitarian projects.

My wife and I are in the process of adopting a daughter from Democratic Republic of Congo, with guidance from OFA. Their dedication to the children of Congo is truly remarkable. Their assistance through the adoption process has been tremendously helpful. It's really been an amazing experience working with such wonderful, caring people. I'm looking forward to working with OFA more in the future.

Give them more money! :) They are doing a tremendous job already and helping a lot of kids, but there are millions of kids who need help.

OFA is a one of a kind humanitarian organization that is lead by a wonderful women named Jilma Meneses. Jilma has been a volunteer for this organization for more than 10 years and has worked tirelessly for the people of DRC by supplying food, medicine, supplies and hope. Jilma has spread the word of the plight of the people in the Democratic Republic of Congo around the world and has drawn volunteers from all across the United States to help in her fight to save lives. While the #1 goal of OFA is to support multiple orphanages Jilma has helped many chldren find loving homes including our 2 that will be home later this spring. If Jilma had not worked so hard to help these children they most certainly would have died horrible deaths of starvation and disease. OFA has the highest standards of practice and holds to a strict code of conduct to show upmost respect to the Congolese people and their goverment. Jilma Meneses is a true HERO to me and the world.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have helped and particpated in fundraisers for formula, clothing, toys and money to support the many oprphanages in DRC. When I see pictures of children eating and babies having formula and without voluteering as a group and without Jilma's leadership these children would be among the thousands of children to die in this worn torn country.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Do whatever I could to increase awarenessof OFA and to find money that will help Jilma to be able to continue this monumental job that she does of saving the lives of the men, women and children of DRC.

My husband and I brought home our two little boys from the DRC in November of 2009. Our Family Adoptions walked us through every step. OFA is a network of volunteers who volunteer so much time for the love of the children of the DRC.
They encouraged us strongly to travel to the DRC. So, we
could see first hand of the atrocities that are happening there. While we were there, our volunteer escort helped us delivered 100# of formula, clothes, and food to several orphanages. They encourage us to continue to educate people about the DRC and raise money for the millions of orphans left behind.
I would recommend this organization as a wonderful place to make donations.
