This is like my third year going to NJTL Rally and you see them (kids) every year enjoying tennis and you see them grow up.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... very well organized and volunteers really work hard.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... you see kids having a great time playing tennis.
Ways to make it better!
  • My experience would have been better if... N/A

These youth tennis organizations do an awesome job giving children the opportunity to learn the game of tennis. (This review was entered by a GreatNonprofits staff member)

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... experience, getting kids to play tennis.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... nice, enthusiastic and generous staff giving their time to help these kids.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... organized, professional, enthusiastic.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... help make tennis a more popular sport for kids to play among all the other sports kids generally play.
Ways to make it better!
  • One thing I'd also say is that... tennis clinics available at all city playgrounds that have tennis courts.

I think that it is a positive experience for me and Sharnay [her daughter] because she’s an only child, so when me and her come to these events together, first of all it helps me and her bond because we’re doing things together as a mother and a daughter. Before she was a part of YTA she would do weekend activities with her friends and other relatives, and now she does activities with me. And also it helps her with socialzation and being with other kids. It also definitely helps in terms of being outside, being active, we like that she’s learning a sport and getting skills. It’s definitely built her confidence. *This review was collected on a site visit and entered by GreatNonprofits staff on behalf of the reviewer

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... I know it’s definitely had a great impact on the Hunter’s Point YTA. I see them really enjoying the activities and also it gives them a positive outlet on weekends to keep the busy and active. So I see my daughter’s YTA group as a whole accelerate in the program and outside of the program, like through the trips. The outing to Stanford to see Serena was a great experience.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... again, it gets her out of the house doing a positive activity on the weekends and its given us great access to the SF tennis club. Without YTA we wouldn’t have had access to a tennis club. And I love that Coach White does a lot of outreach in the community—he’s really proactive.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... very positive, very informative, and they give a lot of guidance. They give great pointers, like setting her up with a better tennis racket. Lots of personalized coaching.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Open up more sites for the students.
Ways to make it better!
  • My experience would have been better if... More events with the children playing, practicing, getting to know each other better—having the different YTA groups practice together and interact more. And more sites—like using more courts throughout the city.
  • If I ran this organization, I would... I would definitely make sure to recruit the children at a younger age, so that they can really grow and develop in the program. Also I’d make sure that the children have the opportunity to be junior coaches so that they can grow and eventually gain employment through the program.
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... funding.
  • One thing I'd also say is that... Some sort of transportation assistance to help the students get to and from practices and tournaments

It’s been great working with YTA. I was a kid once sitting in the stands and it’s a great experience to be able to give back to YTA, given that they gave me a great experience when I was younger. *This review was collected on a site visit and entered by GreatNonprofits staff on behalf of the reviewer.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... they are one of our flagships, serving over 1000 kids every summer teaching tennis
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... seeing the kids having a great time playing tennis and also enforcing the educational component o the tennis program
Ways to make it better!
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... fundraising. They’re a very big organization but they need a lot of funding, and we try to help them out running events like this, but it’s a big challenge.

Over the past 15 years I have had the pleasure of acting as a consultant to non-profit organizations that promote health and happiness through the great lifetime sport of tennis. Tennis changed my life from a young age and throughout my career, first as a community tennis staff member with USTA Florida, then USTA NorCal and now as Executive Director with Youth Tennis Advantage, I have seen tennis ignite the sparks of passion and committment that have positively impacted thousands of people--all ages, all cultures, all skill levels and all ethnicities. Personally, I feel if YTA can inspire more children and families to enjoy the outdoors, excercise, socialize and be eager to learn and grow...our communities and our world will benefit.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... many underserved communities throughout the Bay Area
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... the dedicated staff and board and the caring and generous donors are best!
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Kind and caring with years of experience
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... provide quality after school programs to thousands more children and build a central scholar athlete facility with all the bells and whistles!
Ways to make it better!
  • My experience would have been better if... YTA had the funds to hire some of our long time staff to full time status and provide benefits, we could impact more youth and families.
