Bordner Cabin
The Bordner Cabin in Swatara State Park is our Falling Water. With all of the regulations, you couldn’t build it today. Would you be willing to help with repairs to the Bordner cabin, which turns 70 years old in 2009? For general maintenance and to obtain a Labor and Industry Occupancy Permit, some of the items that need repaired include:
* re-create a stone wall along Rattling Run (a DEP permit must first be obtained);
* grade of the bank for handicap accessibility along the steps to the entrance;
* place a stone path around the Cabin to the back porch for handicap access;
* pour concrete work under the porch by creating a retaining wall and recreating piers on top of the wall to support the porch;
* place tongue and groove flooring over the existing porch deck;
* craft two doors, one to the basement and one with lexan to block off the bedroom overlooking the living room (ceilings are not 7’ high, but lexan panels would allow the public to look inside the room);
* remove stairs in the basement;
* pour 2 concrete bases and mounting 2 posts on top of the bases in the basement--under the bedrooms;
* craft railings to code--up the interior stair well, along the interior balcony, along the porch; and extend 25’ from the building along Rattling Run, and in windows to meet height requirements;
* provide sealed electrical engineer drawings for wiring;
* install emergency lighting, an outlet or two, and a security system; and
* complete an application for historic preservation.

Union Canal Canoe Rentals
Acquisition of Union Canal Canoe Rentals, a 33.69-acre parcel along the Swatara at 1929 Blacks Bridge Road, Annville (East Hanover Township, Lebanon County PA) is near reality. In addition to a boat access, the site adjoins two historic Union Canal locks; and has been improved with a 960 square foot pavilion; a 240 square foot stilted office with both a 200 Amp electrical service and a 120 square foot porch anchored on 3’6” concrete pilings below the frost line; a permeable parking lot, an approved public water source with a flow rate of 25 gallons per minute at the pump house; camping; and 3,341 feet of fishable banks and riparian buffer that shades and cools the Swatara, slows evaporation, and limits runoff and erosion.
