This amazing group of musically gifted women serves the Orange County community with expressive vocal renditions of a broad array of classical and modern pieces. Their director has a knack for bringing out the best in them. Additionally, she brings her own gift of creative and lively verbal communication skills to the listening audience, providing background on each piece to paint a picture as to what brought about the creation of each. Outside performers are also brought in to many of the performances to add more variety and depth to the choral programs which are presented three times a year.

I feel blessed and fortunate to have become involved in supporting this group to the continue their excellent work making beautiful music and causing lots of "treble" in OC!

In this first year of being selected to sing with OCWC, I've been amazed at the depth and breadth of musical talent housed within this group of 36 women. It is led by an artistic director who is incredibly accomplished. She has tremendous creative gifts and directorial skills. The musical compositions selected for performance are technically challenging, stimulating and aurally pleasing. It is a joy to be a part of it, and to offer the gift of music to the public we serve with our voices and hearts.

The Great!

This is a fabulous group of women led by an amazing director. They are meticulous in their preparation of wide variety of music. Everyone should get to hear them. I wish they could do a concert a month but this is not their full time job- they obviously do it for the love of singing.

The Orange County Women's Chorus has provided Southern California with the best in treble music for 15 years. It is an experience to donate money, time and talent to this incredible organization. People ask me whether I get tired of participating in the rehearsals, the performances and other rituals of a chorus. In the case of Orange County Women's Chorus, no second is spent without an incredible return on investment.

The best reward is seeing the enraptured faces of people in the audience as the chorus' voice waft over and envelope them. The music of this chorus can be life - restoring.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Hire an executive director to manage the volunteer administration.

Orange County Women's Chorus is an exciting part of my life. It is one of the most professional choruses in the area. Whenever treble music is well presented in Orange County, you know it was done by OCWC.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The artistic product is delivers

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Dedicated and gracious about giving their time.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Pay for more female conducting interns, produce recordings of its best works, pay for a full time artistic director and professional section leaders. It could bring the chorus into the schools in the area and mentor local composers.

Ways to make it better...

There a paid executive director to relieve the some of the volunteer responsibilities.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

finding funds to meet the growing demands for the art.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Orange County Women's Chorus members continue to give their time, not only to OCWC, but also to social service organizations that better the lives of women.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week

Singing with the Orange County Women's Chorus is a privilege. The organization brings together an outstanding group of talented women, and under our Artistic Director Eliza Rubenstein, we nourish the souls of the audience that follows the group closely. The OCWC has become one of the leading choruses in Southern California, and this honor comes thanks to the hard work and commitment of many people -- all volunteers who work together for the love of music and community. The OCWC is an excellent example of what can be done through cooperation.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Earn enough money and recognition to have the OCWC offer international singing tours, representing the U.S.

OCWC is an amazing group of women doing so much more than just providing extraordinary musical performances. Their drive to achieve the highest musical standards has inspired me to re-develop a skill that I hadn't used in years. It is wonderful to have art as a meaningful part of my life again, and I couldn't have done it without their support and enthusiasm.

I am honored to be both a singer and a board member with this group. On a weekly basis, I am surrounded by women who are dedicated to excellence, community, diversity, and leadership. We sing together and we support one another. Very few of us are professional musicians--and none of us are paid to sing with this group--but we are all committed to performing at the highest level of artistry, and to bringing music to Orange County that is rarely heard. We offer opportunities to promising young women conductors through our conducting internship program, and we are committed to adding music to the treble repertoire through commissioning. Best of all, we have fun! No matter what has happened in the days and hours leading to the weekly rehearsal, my spirit soars by the time we conclude. Thank you for feeding my soul for 16 years. I look forward to more to come!

Singing in OCWC has been one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences of my life. Challenging because much of the music we sing is not the average choral music and Eliza is constantly pushing us to be better and better. Rewarding because something extraordinary happens when women gather. Add music to that gathering and you have magic! The woman in the chorus are exceptional musicians and we have so much fun honing our craft together. The most common comment I have had from my friends and family who have come is something like "Wow! I had no idea how great you all would be!" and then they come back for more performances! I also love that we train and foster women conductors and wherever possible find music from women composers.
