Never has there been a group of people so dedicated and committed to such an important cause. Their passion for the Orang Utan community is not only immeasurable but also addicting. The incredible research that has been done by these folks on the habitats and preservation of these fantastic creatures would amaze anyone! After hearing several hands-on experts speak along with their extremely informative video presentations, I knew right away that as long as this Foundation is around and supported , that Orang Utans would have the best chance to be protected and nurtured. What a wonderful, professional, well organized, educated and essential cause to protect such beautiful creatures!!
Orang Utan Republik Foundation (ORIF) is a small, but effective non-profit organization. Since 2006, ORIF has supported over 100 scholarships and fellowships for Indonesian students pursuing degrees in biology, conservation, and other orangutan-related fields. ORIF's founder Gary Shapiro is well-respected for his long-term involvement in and dedication to orangutan conservation. In addition to leading his own organization, Gary has been an active member and strong supporter of my organization's mission to empower educators and protect primates. I give ORIF and Gary my strongest recommendation.
OURF have done amazing work in the fields of Orang-utan Conservation, Forest Management and education. Their great work needs to continue. Once we loose this incredible habitat and its creatures, they are gone forever!
OURF is doing great work, especially through their scholarship program, which I am most familiar with. They have facilitated over 100 college scholarships now, for students in Borneo and Sumatra, which means that there will soon be 100 more educated and motivated young people leading the charge for orangutan conservation. Through this program, as well as their other activities, OURF is making an invaluable contribution to orangutan conservation in Indonesia.
The Orangutan Republik Foundation is the only non-profit in this field that devotes enormous attention to education. Rather than working solely on protection of orang-utans and their habitat, the Foundation addresses the root of the issue by working to educate local Indonesian people about the importance of the rainforest and its value to their communities. Importantly, the Foundation also supports early-career scientists — in the past eight years, it has funded 61 scholarships for Indonesian students to complete their education and fulfil conservation- and research-oriented projects. Personally, I was a recipient of the L P Jenkins Memorial Fellowship, which is offered to foreign students: the award enabled me to complete my doctorate in orang-utan biology in the face of extreme financial hardship. Building capacity in Indonesia — especially through the support of education and training — is the single most important factor in protecting and preserving orang-utan habitat. I am in awe of the work of Dr Gary Shapiro to further this cause in Indonesia — often at enormous personal cost — and support the Orangutan Republik Foundation without reservation. I will always be grateful for its support of my studies.
Google Dr Shapiro. I can not describe his passion and dedication in a simple blurb. His life's work speaks for itself.
OURF is a dedicated to conservation of orangutans and their commitment to creating necessary conditions to help orangutan in Indonesia is excellent. We are pleased to become OURF partner in providing scholarships for younger generation in Indonesia, a way to engage local youths to become stewards of orangutans and their forest homes!
