I first knew of Opportunity House by an article in a local paper. Pam was great in meeting me to make a donation on a day during a holiday week. She gave me an informative tour and explained their services. It touched me personally because of seeing how the program could benefit a family member. Pam is dedicated, sincere and incredible. The skills these precious people learn are purposeful. Janet

First visited Opportunity House in Lavonia, GA in the summer of 2010. I had been asked to help write some grants. Hearing the laughter, and seeing the clients working, learning, interacting simply tugged at my heart. I saw how involved their Director was, and how the participants supported each other. So, I started researching grants to help the group, and found that there is so little set aside for this very special group of people. That too tugged at my heart. It is devastating to me to see how little there is, and how very hard these people work to raise the money to keep the organization going. I don't think I have ever seen a group of parents, program participants, Board Members, and volunteers work so very hard to help such an amazing group of people. The parents, and participants inspire me everyday to work a little harder, and never let my mind rest until this wonderful group of people receives the attention they deserve!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Witnessing the work of the parents, participants, and Board members in creating their vision for the future. We have visited model programs, and decided on what comprehensive services will best meet the needs of the participants, and guarantee them a life of assistance while moving past new milestones, feeling fulfilled, achieving new heights, and having a sense of belonging while supporting each other on a safe campus providing continuum care services.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Provide more funding, and volunteer in every way possible.

As Program DIrector of Opportunity House, I have been here from the beginning. And from the beginning, our Board of Directors have worked very hard in meetings and fund raising to get this program up and running. Our program has come along way, and we want to continue growing in order to provide a much needed place for special need adults in our area.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

many ways including the joy of each client as they walk through the doors each day excited to be here. Also, the friendships that have evolved between clients. Seeing the clients overcome with excitement when they accomplish something in academics which they weren't able to do before. And finally, the acceptance of being in the community and being able for our clients to interact with people and feeling just as important as everyone else. We see blessings here everyday!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

provide a much larger facility in order to accomodate the increasing number of adults in our area that could have a better quality of life after receiving our services.
