Since July of 2004 I've been privileged to be part of the volunteer leadership team at OTA. I have personally seen the affect OTA has on the troops we serve, the volunteers who work so tirelessly to help them, and the community. It's hard to believe that we have helped over 100,000 troop members, and done so with a 100% volunteer staff, motivated only by a sense of patriotism and desire to give to others. We are blessed to have the best volunteers, the most generous donors and sponsors, and the most courageous recipients of our work - the United States Military.

Operation Troop Appreciation is a an organization whose goal is to make the lives of America's service men and women a bit more bearable while deployed. They organize events in the local Pittsburgh area which meet two objectives, to make sure the community keeps service members in the fronts of their minds and to raise money to provide goods for the troops. These successful and fun events, along with the strong business alliances they have made, allows OTA to maximize their ability to provide for America's fighting men and women. Despite their strong ties to the Pittsburgh community, OTA provides for service members from all over the Nation. Visit their website and read the testimonials from those they have helped. OTA is bright and shinning example of the American spirit. They are to be honored.

From a more or less "grass roots" organization to what OTA has become today says it all! They go wherever and do whatever they have to to find what these troops are asking for and getting whatever it is to whoever has asked for it. I'm amazed more and more every time I read a letter from a grateful serviceman who got a care package from OTA or a CO for a particular unit who thanks OTA for his whole unit. I'm proud to be a small donor but most proud of the people who are working at OTA.

When it comes to supporting our Troops whom but their lives on the line each and every day,,,well this is where OTA comes in. This organization has done wonderful things for our Military, whom are far away from home. They send them care packages and our Military really appreciates your dedication to them. Keep up the good work because you guys make a BIG difference to our Troops! Putting numerous smiles on their faces and knowing that they have tons of people back home that care and pray for their save return. The good Lord blessed me 2 times in the past 3 years getting my Son back safe after 2 separate 12 month tours. Keep up the good work OTA~!

I have been a volunteer for OTA for 5 years now in the capacity of collecting donations for "wish list items" and signatures for holiday cards and thank you cards for our troops at various functions in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I have also donated DVD's, blankets, and toiletries to be packaged and sent to the troops. It has been such an inspiration talking to families that have someone overseas in the service, or have been there themselves and have received packages from OTA. They are so appreciative and can't thank you enough. The letters OTA has received from thankful recipients is overwhelming. Just to think how OTA has grown is remarkable in itself. I am so blessed to be a part of this wonderful organization.

I've experienced the results of this organization in reading the many, many pictures, and letters of thankfulness and appreciation from troops that have received items. I have spoken with previous recipients during my volunteering that could not express how grateful they were for OTA. All the volunteers love what they do, and it gives me personal gratification.

I would not change a thing about this organization. It is so well organized, and has wondertul leaders.

I spent a saturday last fall, helping OTA of Pittsburg fill probably close to 2 tons of Christmas "Care Packages" to be sent to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The spirit and comraderie of the team and volunteers(myself) was congenial and uplifting. How could it not be? Such a worthwhile
and noble effort to honor our troops in war zones-away from their families, friends and the country they so proudly serve, was inspiring.
I will gladly give of my time, energy and resources to help in any way possible, to promote OTA and its mission in the future.

The efficiency with which this organization operates is unmatched. With an all-volunteer staff, 98.5% of all donations go directly to support the troops. When looking for an organization with which to volunteer, OTA's efficiency sold me. Too many other organizations put their donations into their overhead. Rarely are you truly helping the intended cause to the extent that OTA does. Being able to maintain that ratio while helping more than 80,000 soldiers is truly astounding.

Beyond the efficiency, the volunteers are relentless. They joyfully hit the streets to get the word out and collect donations. All in an effort to simply let the men and women currently serving our country know that they are appreciated. Not only do the volunteers joyfully hit the streets, we have never wanted for volunteers to help us pack up and ship boxes to the troops.

It truly is an amazing organization and it is incredible that something that started as one woman's good intentions has grown into an organization that has touched the lives of more than 80,000 folks.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The results of OTA's efforts aren't tangable. It's a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction. Simply knowing that you've helped someone that's living in less-than-optimal conditions to secure your freedom and keep you safe is enough. That being said, the thank you letters we receive are heart warming and enhance the satisfaction.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I can't think of anything.

I have had the great opportunity to work with Operation Troop Appreciation for the last 3 years. Kristen and Monica are wonderfully nice people. I commend them both on their dedication to this program. For two of the three years, I would take collections from my church and/or my mother's AARP to the Armory. My kids would accompany me. For them (and me) the experience was wonderful. There were military personnel who would explain the different vehicles and what their functions are. Kristen and Monica and other volunteers would help unload the items and explain where it would be sent. On two occasions I requsted a speaker come to an assembly to speak and both times OTA came through. Those involved with OTA are very dedicated not only to the program, but the military it supports and the United States of America. They are truly blessed.
