I have worked with Operation Shoebox for several years. Mary Harper devotes every day to making sure our troops have what they need and a lot of love from home. The biggest challenge is getting enough money for postage.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Receiving letters from our troops letting us know how much they appreciate all that we are doing for them.

More feedback...

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Some of the most dedicated people you can find in any organization.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Reach every one of our heroes serving our Country, have a bigger thrift store, better truck for pick up and delivery.

My wife and I have been volunteeting at Operation Shoebox for over 4 years and we find it very rewarding. With the sacrifices that our troops do to ensure our freedom , it is the least we can do to help them. My wife is writing letters to the troops 7 days a week and I help out mailing packages and organizing bus trips to raise money for postage. We love it there.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

send a package to all our troops overseas.

I have been deployed to Iraq 4 different times, Mary and Operation shoe box made sure that each time I was deployed that I recieved what I need to take care of my self and my soldiers, I was Platton sergeant of 125 soldier and then 1SG of 325 and each time she and the crew of operation shoe box treat me and my soldier like we were her children. I have never personal meet Mary but if I do she will be one person that I give a hug and a Kiss to. They are the greatest people that i can ever think of and would love to help them any way that I could. Thanks

I am a volunteer for Operation Shoebox in the sewing area. For 5 years I was the Sewing Captain of this area and am now retired to just being a sewer. We have a wonderful group of people (up to 300 or more each week) that gather and prepare goodies to send to our military overseas. The sewers make 10"by 12" cloth bags with a drawstring to put the goodies in. The remainder of the group sort and prepare the things that we send. Then once all are ready the 400 or more bags are filled and prepared for shipment overseas. Getting letters back from the soldiers and having some come visit us when they return makes all we do worthwhile. Each bag contains a handwritten note that the soldiers really appreciate. We don't ever want our soldiers to feel that they are forgotten. We want them to know just how much we appreciate all the sacrifices they are making to keep our country free and to help others have a better life. Brenda Sprague

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Being at our meeting when a soldier has returned from battle and told us how much he appreciated us taking the time to think of him even when we didn't know him. How much it raises his morale.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Knowing that we can put a smile on the face of a soldier even when he or she might be having a really bad day. For a moment or so he knows someone is thinking of him or her.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Reach many more soldiers serving our country overseas.

I have been volunteering at Operation Shoebox for almost three years from the time I first moved into the Villages in Florida. We have a very large, dedicated group of volunteers who work tirelessly to make sure our soldiers in the war zones are not forgotten by the folks at home. During the time I've worked there, I've received back many notes from appreciative soldiers, especially about the Christmas stockings we send. The workers are fun to be with, so that makes the volunteering that much easier and I've made some wonderful friends at our candy packing table!!

I am a retired combat veteran and I wish we had this group when I was in Vietnam. My wife and I are volunteers for Operation Shoebox and go every Monday to make sure the troops get the support that prior troops never got.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the letters the troops send back to Operations Shoebox. When you are overseas in a combat zone you feel alone and when you get anything from people back home it helps you get through the day.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

The organization is run the best I have seen organization run.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The biggest thing I enjoy is how many people are involved with this group and how much everyone goes out of there way to make sure the troops are not forgotten.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Everyone puts their hearts into this group and are very given people.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Help all of the troops overseas. The main problem we have it the cost for postage. The organization is unable to get any help from anyone with the cost of postage.

Ways to make it better...

I can't think of any way to make it better.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Rasing funds for postage. Postage is the BIGGEST expense in this organization. The other challenge is to have people donate more items for the troops.

One thing I'd also say is that...

This group has touched some many troops that this Organization should be the best recognized one among the troops.

Mostly very willing to do the job that is requested of them.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

We could send more to troops overseas and also do more for the wounded warriors with their needs.

This has been the most rewarding experience of my life. To have an avenue to help support our troops is awesome! OSB works hard to make sure the troops get what they are requesting!

Ways to make it better...

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

space, they don't have enough space to handle all the things they get in.

One thing I'd also say is that...

everyone should be supportive of our troops
