Operation Shoebox volunteers have one goal in mind - to put a smile on as many faces as possible. Our soldiers are far from home in dangerous situations so that we can live free and enjoy life. This nonprofit is all about the troops and how we can serve them. Mary Harper, founder and leader, is an angel who puts in six and many times seven days a week. Her dedication to the troops is an inspiration to all who know her, and there are over 500 volunteers who each do their part to pack ditty bags or Christmas stockings filled with goodies and love. Operation Shoebox is truly an exceptional nonprofit. Linda Bowman

I continue to be amazed at the dedication and compassion of Mary Harper, the founder, and countless others who strive to make our troops feel appreciated.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the books of thank you letters from soldiers who have received encouragement from Operation Shoebox.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

think of more ways to raise funds.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the times a soldier comes in to personally thank us for what we do.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

totally committed to reaching as many of our troops as possible so they know they are not forgotten.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

fulfill every troop request.

Ways to make it better...

there were more days in the week so I could serve more time.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

continuing to acquire donations

One thing I'd also say is that...

funds raised go directly to supplies for care packages and postage to send them. We are all volunteers and are rewarded not with money but with pride in what this organization accomplishes.

My husband and I heard about Operation Shoe Box six yrs ago when we moved to the Villages. We felt that this was something we wanted to volunteer for. My huband is an AirForce veteran, our daughter retired after 20yrs in the Air Force and now works @ the VA in Gainesville. Our son spent 17 yrs in the Coast Guard. With all the sevice connection in the family we felt this was something close to our hearts. It has been very heart warming to donate our time early Monday. I is very gratifying to hear from the men & women who receive our pkgs (Operation Shoe Box) stating what it means to them to recieve a touch of home treats as well as notes from the folks who take the time to write and thank them for the job that they are doing. To say the truth we look forward to our time spent @ Operation Shoe Box each wk. Ann Marie & Nick Caron

Very supportive!!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Send our troops more and more pkgs to the troops to re-assure them of our gratitude.

From the moment I saw with my own eyes the dedicated people that WANT to participate and show up religiously whenever they can to help get or create needed items to our troops who are trying to make the World a better place, my heart was won. Operation Shoebox is a massive effort and fundraising of many to do what we can to send some necessities - and comfort - to our troops and to let them know they're thought about so much home here in the USA.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

hearing feedback through letters and visits from our military troops and officers that have benefitted from packages sent by Operation Shoebox.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

knowing the devotion of so many people and knowing we're making a true impact for our troops. One person started this, but literally hundreds show up every week and spend many off hours as well to donate time, money and do fundraising.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

often planning appointments, events and vacations around their Operation Shoebox schedule as they want to participate whenever they can.

Operation Shoebox is the most dedicated group of people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Their tireless dedication to the cause of improving the comfort and morale of every serviceman and woman that is serving in harms way cannot be understated.

I moved to this community over 5 years ago and heard a volunteer speak about Operation Shoebox...from that moment on I knew that I wanted to help our troops through this selfless group. I'm the Inventory Manager, which means that Mary (our President) and myself make sure that there are always 9 to 10 items at our meeting place every week ready to be packed for our troops. I also coordinate and receive mailings that are contributed and mailed from all over the country. It is an honor and a priviledge to volunteer with this incredible group of people that want to let our troops know that they will "never be forgotten". We pack each bag that is sent with a piece of our heart!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

having deployed troops return home and visit us. They tell us how much they appreciated receiving our handmade bags and handmade Christmas Stockings that are filled with goodies, a handmade skull cap and a handwritten note.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

try to organize more committees so that our leaders could have more help.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the joy I receive from knowing that I am making a contribution to our troops so that they know how much we appreciate their service to our Country.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

incredibly efficient, terrific, giving and appreciative of our troops. I can't say enough about the volunteers as there aren't enough adjectives to describe the feeling of comraderie that one feels when we are together for our troops.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

send to every man and woman that is deployed! Help the families of our military and our Wounded Warriors as they are making the largest sacrifice.

Ways to make it better...

I could spend more time helping where I'm needed.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

raising enough funds for the mailing and shipping of the items to our troops.

My famiuly has been involved with Operation Shoebox for several years now. Our organization makes ditty bags and Christmas stockings to send to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. More than that we correspond with the troops, keep them in our prayers, and promote patriotism. Alot of our time is devoted to fundraising for the postage costs (which are not subsidized by the government) and for the items that go in our bags. It is truly a worthwhile organization.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

hearing from returning troops who go out of their way to visit and thank us.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

wish for peace so that there are no more wars and no more troos away from home.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the sense of gratification that I'm helping to let a soldier know that he/she is remembered and appreciated. Also, meeting the friends that I work with.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very patriotic.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

meet the needs of many more soldiers.

we would have more donations for needed supplies and postage.

funding.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I'm so proud to be a part of this wonderful organization.

I recently joined Operation Shoebox several months ago and have been constantly impressed with the people working there and the unselfishness of their time, efforts and donations on behalf of our servicemen. When we were preparing and filling the Christmas stockings to be sent to "our heroes", several people went out and bought more of the items we were running short on and I know for a fact that as senior citizens, they are living on a fixed income.
