Great organization that is always looking for what they can do for our troops ~ be it a fundraiser to earn money to send packages ,collecting from schools, bake sales, selling of military branch items,etc..... A tireless group of people that support & honor our troops !!!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

reading of letters from the grateful troops / seeing the support from the community, friends & family when they attend fundraisers/ all the donations of food, gum, batteries etc.....

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

hope they can find a bigger place for when they do their Christmas packing, not enough room in the small office theu have for all the donations & the packing of 1000's of boxes to the troops for Christmas : )

When the war started in Iraq, I wanted so much to do something to help show my support for the troops. I found OCP online and saw what a giving operation it is. Debbie Smothers and her assistants have done so much to help so many over the years. Working seven days a week to raise money for postage, or donations for packages has made this so successful. Thousands!!! of packages have been sent to our troops. She goes above and beyond in making certain that they have everything they would need or want if home. In summer they have chap stick and suntan lotion, etc. In winter, knit caps, blankets, etc. Games are sent, along with chocolate, cookies, snacks, etc, along with all kinds of entertainment items. She's gone personally to funerals of "Fallen Soldiers" in her surrounding area, as well as had returning soldiers acknowledged and thanked, at events that she organizes. So much love and giving go into everything she does to show her gratitude to our troops, along with so many that work with her. She works with Wreaths Across America, to have wreaths laid and every year has hopes to lay more than the previous, which I am proud to be a part of. Donations come in by truckloads with people wanting to help her cause. If I lived up there in Chicago, you'd find me at her warehouse physically helping. Although I've said so much, this organization is so much more. It's a clear message of Thanks, love and giving. You cannot imagine the great things Debbie comes up with for raising money and how she works non-stop during her "free time" (?) to just keep on giving and giving and giving. All her assistants are God sent and OPERATION CARE PACKAGE, INC is so extremely blessed, as well as the people whose life it has touched.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the fact that I've been able to contribute in my small way and feel the greatest feeling of the quote "it's better to give than to receive". However, I've also received letters back from the troops saying how they have felt "remembered" and "appreciated" . So this organization has resulted personally to me in helping me to say "thank you" and experience true happiness in the form of giving.

I also am a donor and a mother of a son who has served 5 tours I also have friends and former students in the Military.OCP has supported all my people . The men and women who have received packages all express a big thank you to all who unselfishly give of themselves in many ways to support OCP. My son also would like to express his thanks for all the packages for him and his fellow military family.

Feedback from the men and women that received the pkgs. all told me that It was very emotionally uplifting knowing that people cared. Sometimes these packages helped many women and men continue their mission.

I have been a member of Operation Care Package for about 10 years. It has been a fantastic organization for our troops. The thousands of packages they send out bring a special touch of home to so many of our soldiers, many of whom have no family members to support them. I know how my nephew and a friend felt when they were recipients of the care packages. I also participated in the letter and card writing campaign for several years and heard personally form many of the soldiers who received my notes. The recent participation in of OCP the Wreaths Across America program has been an additional tribute to our fallen soldiers and their families. As the wife of a deceased retired vet I have donated each year for a wreath in honor of my husband. It means a lot to myself and my family.
My continued kudos go out to Debbie Smothers and her active crew who do so much every day.

Operation Care Package is very dedicated in making sure our military men and women receive packages on a regular basis. They have a regular meeting schedule where they send several hunderd packages each week to our troops and they pack every Wednesday. They reach well over 8,000 troops from Thanksgiving to Christmas and they add the special touch to each box that is mailed. They write letters, have kids draw pictures, have stockings made up and also send phone cards which are supplied by phone cards for troops organization. They decorate the boxes for all occasions and each box is packaged with loving care! They do so much for our troops and it is truly appreciated!

I have personally received letters from the troops that truly appreciate this group sending them a package and some will bring tears to your eyes as they are so greatful!

Not sure what I could change with the group. What they really need extra help with is the mailing costs as this can be well over $100,000.00 in a year which is very costly!
