Help children who are living in poverty develop to their fullest potential by providing them a safe,loving and educational environment.
Early childhood education program for preschoolers & infants - served approximately 400 preschoolers & infants, before and after school (100 school aged children) and summer youth programs (125 school aged children). Operated at or near capacity for fye 10-31-2014. Supportive services include health, mental health, family services and emergency assistance. Programs are funded mainly by contributions and grants and serve low income families based on federal guidelines. Program also receives head start funds.
provided meals for enrolled children. Programs are subsidized by usda for approved low income children. Meals include a hot breakfast & lunch and also an afternoon snack.

I have been a volunteer and contributor to Operation Breakthrough for over 20 years.
In spite of the fact that the children are poor and many are homeless, it is one of the happiest, busiest places in Kansas City. It is impossible to be at Operation Breakthrough and not find yourself smiling.
I have served on many boards in Kansas City, there is not a more committed, dedicated staff any where.
This is not just a day care center or a school. Operation Breakthrough cares for all aspects of a child's life.

Operation Breakthrough has given me great joy. I was given a profound gift when I discovered this wonderful place. I have also learned about the struggles of the poorest among us and I am a better person because of them.

I would find more people to help lobby at the Missouri state capitol to help inform the state's legislators about the plight of poor children and their parents, so these law makers would offer more support to Operation Breakthrough's mission.
