Omni Youth Programs is an oustanding program for young children and families. I am proud to have been a part of the team for almost five years. The curriculm teaches the children that they have choices in life and each choice has a consquence. It was exciting to see the expressions on the children's faces while playing the many different board games or during the puppet show when they realized that they did not have to follow the crowd. They had a choice!

I have been with Omni for the last three years. There is nothing more rewarding than to see the children's face light up when they see us. The Omni's approach to teaching the children about drugs, peer pressure and gangs is amazing. Though board games and real life role playing, the children learn what happens when they decide to use drugs or join a gang. Omni gives them fudamental steps on how to say "NO" to peer pressure. Omni's quarterly data shows that the children's behavior improves after having Omni in their classes and for that my hat is off to all the counselors.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

not enough money

One thing I'd also say is that...

I have worked with Omni Youth Programs for almost 20 years and can honestly say this program is very valuable to the communities we serve. What's so unique about our program is that we offer four to eight week small group facilitation so that the youth have a better opportunity to bond with an adult who can help provide positive guidance and support. We also give the youth an opportunity to bond and develop strong, positive relationships with their peers. These relationships continue to grow over the three years that our services are offered at each individual school. Omni Youth Programs also has a very professional and educated staff that are working with at risk youth because they have a passion and commitment to help make youth and communities stronger, but also because many of us have a strong passion to keep our youth free of drugs and gangs. I personally have seen how damaging drugs can be to a youth, their family and the community at large, and made it a personal mission of my own to work in this field to try to make a difference. This program has helped me reach my goal of giving back. I grew up in a low income at risk environment and became the person I am today because I had strong role models that took time out to spend with me and keep me pointed in the right direction. This is what I see Omni providing to the youth they work with.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have dedicated almost 20 years of my life to help keep our youth safe. I personally worked at the schools with the youth and families for over 10 years and was able to experience first hand how giving back to youth made a positive difference in their lives. I had the opportunity to counsel youth who were on the verge of running away, and helped other youth stop using drugs. I realized how important one hour per week with a child who just needed someone to listen really was.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Definitely help it to reach a larger population. I would continue to seek grants and do all that I could to help raise funds to keep the doors open.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Working with the youth and seeing their smiles everytime we entered the classroom. I also enjoyed reading through the Thank You cards that they personally made for us. I also enjoyed working with the staff and many volunteers over the years.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Phenominal. They are all very friendly and very knowledgeable in the field of drug and gang prevention. All volunteers and interns are treated with respect and most become friends that we are able to continue corresponding with after they have moved on.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Increase the number of youth and families receiving our services for free, open more facilities, and train other individuals to provide the same quality program to other communities.

Ways to make it better...

We were able to stay even longer at the schools. The bond that you develop with the youth, the teachers and the schools is a very strong one and it is sometimes difficult to say goodbye at the end of program.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Definitely funding. Due to the stringent economy, many non-profits including ours continue to face huge budget cutbacks that threaten the exixtence of programming and staff. Everyone, including the Board is trying to bring in additional funding.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I'd appreciate more funding to continue to help our youth live happier, longer lives, and our communities grow stronger and safer.

Omni Youth Programs is an exceptional agency that makes a huge difference in neighborhoods with heavy drug and gang involvement. It's surprising how many pre-teens confide to the counselors that they have been doing drugs with their parents daily since they were 8 years old. But once PASA starts, they really hear what the counselors have to say, and quit using! And, many of them change their views towards gangs. For the first time they think about what it really means to their future and their family as innocent bystanders if they join. Another exciting thing is that teachers say that once Omni Youth Programs starts coming to their class, they spend very little time on resolving student conflicts after every recess and lunch. That's because the program spends a lot of time on resolving problems without violence. Teachers hear the youth telling each other to not fight and just talk it out. Very different from before Omni got there! Everyone involved in the agency is extremely dedicated, competent and show a great deal of respect for each other. Very stringent and ethical business practices are applied and there's never been a legal or ethical complaint or problem since the formation of the program. Omni Youth Programs been around for over 30 years for many good reasons. It's a great organization that gets meaningful results and truly makes a difference in the lives of youth and families in Sacramento. I'm very proud to be a part of this organization.

The Great!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

seeing the real difference the program makes, the dedication and commitment of the people involved with Omni, and knowing that what I do makes a difference to these amazing children, their families, and the greater community.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

exceptional! Everyone is extremely dedicated, committed and care enormously about the children, families, people who work and volunteer here, and the agency's success. It feels like a family with everyone happy to see each other.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

become a model program and then have it available to schools all over the country. The impact would be enormous!

Omni Youth Programs is an extremely professiona and nurturing agency who cares about training the youth counselors of tomorrow as much as it cares for the at risk youth and families it serves. It accompishes a TREMENDOUS amount of success with very low agency cost ($.93 of every dollor goes directly to the programs!) That really empressed me! It also strives to impact the community as a whole by providing services year after year for it's clients and their families at home. If you want your donated dollor to go far and have an immediate and lasting impact, Omni Youth Programs is a wonderful agency for which to donate.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The amount of violence and conflict immediatly decreases (as reported by the teachers) after the program has begun. Some of my youth clients committed to being the first in their family to stay out of gangs and stay away from harmful sunstances.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Do whatever I could to find more money, grants, etc. so that our programs could have an even wider reaching, broader positive impact.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Learning hands on techniques that have an immediate impact. It was so wonderful to receive such effective training, tools, and support so that I could see and instant change in the youth I served.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Very devoted and supportive. They trusted me to learn how to develop my own technique while following their curriculum. They were also lots of fun!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Use it's experience and financial genious to positivly impact every at risk neighborhood in it's vicinity. The surrounding neighborhoods would see a decrease in truency, crime rate, and drug use.

Ways to make it better...

The funding was available to continue their programs for more days at more schools.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The budget cuts they are currently experiencing as well as the decrease in people who are willing to donate. With even just a small amount of monetary support, this agency could accomplish so much more!

One thing I'd also say is that...

If this agency loses it's funding, the schools and neighborhoods is serves would suffer greatly. Not only would truency and school violence increase, but students would never know of their power of choice to choose a better path than those around them.
