Ohio Valley Goodwill is rampant with nepotism. New hires are forced to disclose medical information under the threat of termination. The "consumers" (as they are labeled) are sometimes paid below minimum wage. I would describe Ohio Valley Goodwill more as a front operation.

Our son has been a client at Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries for the last four years. He came to the program with a personal traumatic brain injury, and after having lost a competitive community job that he had worked for 12 years. Goodwill Industries employed John, and has assisted him to continue to be productive, been exceptional in helping him to adjust, and continue to work in spite of some personal issues that have needed accommodations. The staff have been very supportive in work adjustment, and now as he he has progressed to work in the larger work area. When issues have presented they have communicated with us in a timely and effective manner, and have requested meetings for planning, and have taken a personal interest in assisting him in continuing to be a productive participant in the workplace. He frequently has difficulty staying focused on his work so a very specific behavioral sheet was created which allows him to read the schedule, follow a specific plan and earn the opportunity to have a reward after so many days of following the schedule. He has always responded to positive opportunities to earn something. We were very impressed with their understanding, and willingness to individualize a program to assist our son to succeed in his work environment.

Our family has donated and purchased from Cincinnati Goodwill stores since I was a child. It is an organization that continuously gives back to this community year after year. I have seen them go so far as to donate time, manpower and clothing to other nonprofits in their time of need. The staff at each store is friendly and helpful and they treat their employees with a great deal of respect. Goodwill will be part of this families giving and shopping habits for years to come.

Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries is an excellent organization made up of dedicated and caring staff members who are committed to providing quality services. I have experienced first hand the willingness of the staff to go above and beyond to help individuals meet their own personal goals. Over the years Goodwill has demonstrated their commitment to meeting the ever changing needs of the individuals being served by the expansion and development of new programs. Goodwill is an agency that I continually recommend to parents, care givers, and other professionals in the field who may be seeking opportunities for individuals with special needs.

Over the years I have seen many individuals meet a goal or achieve a dream through their participation in the programs offered at Ohio Valley Goodwill

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

The only change I would make to the organization would be to expand the program offerings for individuals with disabilities to include the Northern Kentucky area.

The Ohio Valley Goodwill Care Program is the answer to our prayer. The staff and participants have such a positive attitude and the atmosphere is so peaceful, yet full of life. I am a worry free parent. The staff has such respect for each individual and is committed to helping them reach their full potential. I see my daughter, who is non-verbal and non-ambulatory really happy and doing more things independently. I really feel blessed to have found such a good program and love watching the wonderful changes in my daughter. There really are angels among us.

The Goodwill Organization has played an instrumental role in placing Veteran’s with extreme barriers to employment in permanent self-sufficient positions in the Northern Kentucky Area. The Homeless Veteran Re-integration Program (HVRP) has provided these veterans with bus passes for transportation, tools and clothing for specific occupations, counseling, vocational training for clients lacking marketable skills, housing and job lead information. Goodwill’s service is not limited to their program. Training and employment are a major focus of the Goodwill Staff. One staff member volunteered to teach the weekly basic computer skills class, which serves as a skills development/confidence builder and launching pad for hire levels of training. Another staff member regularly participates in employment service activities, helping employers set up in-house interviewing and controlling the flow of applicants during the process. Goodwill Industries recently helped sponsor the American Legion Job Fair hosting 55 local employers, over 350 participants. This event was deemed a success by employers and participants alike and resulted in 62 direct hires. The Goodwill staff helped man the registration table, providing company listings, maps and job search information to job seekers. The Goodwill HVRP Staff also played a critical role in promoting and helping staff the NKY Veterans Job Fair that will host 80 companies and 650-900 jobseekers. Goodwill has actively participated in the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Veteran Service Committee during the committee’s two-year tenure. The organization strives to improve and provide Veteran employment, training and services in the Tri-state area. The VSC has created Veteran Service Cards containing names and telephone numbers of services frequently used by veterans. The organization has also publicized Veteran events including 18 job fairs, ceremonies and several workshops. The Goodwill Program has provided a proven record of success in the realms of employment, education and training. I think that any grant awarded to this organization would be money well spent. The investment would be magnified in the lives of the people they serve and enhance the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati Workforce.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

As a Veteran's Employment Representative working hand-and-hand with the Goodwill HVRP Staff, I have personally the difference they have made in many veterans life by providing: housing, counseling, clothing asssistance, food assistance, transportation and fuel and employment to veterans with extreme barriers. They have assisted ex-felons, recovering addicts, people with behavioral disorders and people who have been living on the streets obtain and secure emplouyment and get their lives back on track.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would place the Goodwill HVRP Program in every major area One Stop in the State of Kentucky.
