Compassion in Action; To show by example the simplest ways to make a difference in the lives of animals.
We built a 1600 sq ft climate controlled shelter in 2006 which doesn't make us dependent on fosters. We also purchased a church choir bus and converted it for taking the dogs to and from adoption. Since 2006 we've done over 200 adoptions a year. In 2010 two of our wheelchair bound dogs were accepted into Baylor University Medical Center's Pet Assisted Therapy Program; the first wheelchair bound dogs visiting patients who are much like themselves. It's a remarkable event everytime we go.

We provide dogs to the Dallas County Juvenile Authority's PREP program, where at risk young men are taught a skill with dogs. It changes the boy's lives and we get back an obedience trained dog that's 100% easier to adopt.

When my parents passed away, they left behind their beautiful Great Dane, Sabrina. Most of my family members either lived in apartments (not suitable for dogs of that size) or already had multiple pets who did not get along well with my parents' Dane (several of us tried). So, with broken hearts, we were tasked with finding a home for this sweet, senior dog. A friend of mine (who works closely with animal shelters) put us in contact with Bettye Baker at Oak Hill Rescue. We struck gold with Bettye. She worked with us, diligently, to try to find a suitable home for Sabrina. When she couldn't find a home for her, she and her amazing husband took Sabrina in and made her their own personal pet. They took incredibly good care of her and loved her. They were patient and worked hard to build a bond with her. Bettye was even so kind as to send me pictures and updates. They took on a charity case, when no one else in the world would. I cannot speak highly enough of Bettye and the work she does at Oak Hill Rescue. The love and compassion she showed towards Sabrina speaks volumes as to the kind of compassionate person she is and what kind of a loving organization she runs. Thank you to Oak Hill Rescue, for everything! You were a blessing to Sabrina and our family.
This is a really good rescue organization. Shortly after our beloved dog died we found a special puppy online that we knew we wanted to adopt. Oak Hill Animal Rescue, Inc. had rescued her and placed her into foster care because she was going to be euthanized the next day by municipal services.
Oak Hill considered our application carefully to be sure we were a good match for our chosen puppy as their goal is to place pets into forever families. We agonized for a few days awaiting a decision as to whether we would be approved for this puppy. When she was at last brought to us and our home was deemed safe and appropriate for her we got to keep her for a trial period. We of course knew that it would work, but still it was nice to be certain.
Once our application to adopt this puppy was approved we found the staff lovely to work with. The organization is earnestly dedicated to saving as many dogs and cats as they can and assuring a loving and safe family placement for each. They had of course provided her immunizations and micro-chipped her. Spaying and neutering is required at the appropriate age and is provided free if the adoptive family chooses to use Oak Hill's resources. Or, if the family chooses to use their own vet they may receive a $50.00 voucher instead.
I highly recommend Oak Hill Animal Rescue, Inc. for a really good experience in finding your newest family member on four feet.
I've only spoke with Oak Hill Animal Rescue twice, but the customer service and kindness shown was beyond excellent. I was in town on business and picked up the saddest stray dog you've ever seen. After calling dozens of rescues (most who never returned my call, many who declined helping, and several who were very rude in the process), I finally got to speak with Bettye! She was so kind and helpful and assisted me in finding other shelters and rescues to call. Despite the fact that she did not have room (or a foster) available for this dog, she took the time out of her day to help me in my panic-stricken time of need. Thank you again, Bettye!

We had an outstanding experience adopting our "fur baby" from Oak Hill! Last year I saw one of their foster dogs on Facebook, immediately contacted them and filled out an application. Oak Hill is very pro-active in making sure their dogs are a good match with the family. This happens after the application is approved with home visits, which enables the family to see "first hand" how the potential adoptee will interact with the rest of the family (children, other pets, etc.). My husband and I were very impressed with their genuine love and concern for their rescues...and if and when the time comes, we will return to Oak Hill for another "fur baby" to add to our family.
My husband and I had been wanting to adopt a dog for awhile but were waiting for the right fit. We constantly surfed the Humane Society websites and those of other organizations but Oak Hill Animal Rescue proved to be our favorite by far. Their staff/volunteers were extremely professional and caring; they clearly knew a lot about animals and the adoption process. Not just that but they were incredibly dedicated to ensuring all adoptions ewre a good fit as seen by the way they brought pets out for a home visit and allowed them a brief stay to test the waters before finalizing the adoption. This really proved to us that they prioritized the well-being of the animals above anything else. Additionally, they offered to let us call or reach out with any questions on animal behavior, training, etc!
We ended up adopting Rosy, a german shepherd mix who was about 1.5 years old. She's an angel, truly. We couldn't be happier! We love Rosy so much and definitely love OHAR for taking care of her so well before we adopted her.
Great group of people making a difference in the world . I adopted Maxx from them 3 1/2 years ago. They save pets that are in need that the shelters will put down. They educate people so hopefully one day there won't be a need for rescues.
My experience with Oak Hill has been wonderful! From day one Bettye Baker, the Executive Director, was quick to answer my emails and answered any and all questions I had about the process (and I had a lot!). After much extensive research online and debating between dogs with my husband, we visited one of the Pet Smart locations where they host weekend adoption events. The dogs all had clean water and looked well fed and taken care of there were also plenty of volunteers available . The volunteers were knowledgeable about some dogs but not with all, but I was able to get information from Bettye's husband. The following day (Sunday) Bettye brought a dog we'd fallen in love with at the event to stay with us for a week for a trail period. However, this dog's personality completely changed from how he was at the adoption event. At the event he was playful and snuggly and even fell asleep in my husband's lap but within two hours of being in our home he bit my four year old son, my husband twice and myself. Needless to say we couldn't keep him. Bettye was very kind and understanding and retrieved the dog a few hours later and offered to bring the other dog we were considering the following day. Second time was the charm and we LOVE our new furry family member! He's sweet, cuddly, playful and gentle with my son. All of their dogs come micro chipped and spayed/neutered and up to date with shots and such and most are crate trained. After the trail period is up we will definitely be adopting from Oak Hill. Bettye has been as transparent as possible about the adoption process as well as flexible. You can tell she sincerely cares about the animals and the type of home they are going to.

I recently adopted a beautiful dog from Oak Hill. My living situation was not ready for her so Oak Hill took care of her long enough for my situation to improve. I was glad that they did because now we have our beautiful baby at home. I am glad they were so understanding and helpful. I will go to Oak Hill from now on and would recommend anyone else to do the same.

Jim and Bettye...there are not enough amazing compliments to sum them up! What they do for these animals is completely fantastic! We rescued one of our furry kids from them, and could not be any more appreciative that they saved him from the streets and gave him a second chance. I could not imagine my life without him.

Oak Hill Animal Rescue and Mr. and Mrs. Baker are top notch when it comes to the care and placement of animals. Their concern is to find the right home for the animals; what I mean by "right" is a good fit for the animal and for the adopting family.
Oak Hill offers trial visits, and in our case, Mrs. Baker drove the prospective dog to our house and stayed with us for about an hour and a half.
They also offer obedience training for dogs and the program utilizes at-risk youth as trainers, all under the supervision of a certified trainer. So not only are the dogs benefiting, so are the youth of our community as well.
I truly cannot say enough good things about Oak Hill and Mr. and Mrs. Baker, their concern for the animals they care for, their commitment to them and towards saving their lives.
