Results: Each year because of the services of the Novato Human Needs Center, more than 1,500 families avoid homelessness, an empty pantry, and assist them in getting critical services such as medical care, translation and other vital support. We provide 8,000 rides to seniors and disabled adults allowing them to access health and human services, medical appointments, and shopping trips. More than 250 people who are out of work or underemployed find new or improved positions and assist them in staying off of welfare.
Target demographics: The Novato Human Needs Center serves low-income families and individuals who are striving toward self-sufficiency. Our clients include seniors, immigrants, disabled persons, families and individuals who are in need.
Direct beneficiaries per year: The Center now assists more than 4,000 at-risk individuals each year.
Geographic areas served: Novato, California and Marin County
Programs: Community Services provides case management, emergency food, clothing, rental assistance and small loans, along with counseling, information and referral. Legal services and financial management assistance are available. Holiday Share provides food and gifts to families at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Latino Outreach provides interpreting, translation, advocacy, and community cultural events for Latino families. Employment Services provides job-counseling, skills assessment, workshops in job search skills, job placement, and English as a Second Language Classes. Transportation Services provides door-to-door transportation to senior citizens and disabled Novato residents to medical appointments, as well as social services and business appointments. More than 10,000 passenger trips are provided each year. Second Center Thrift Shop provides clothing and household goods to clients of the Center. Revenues from sales support the Center's service programs.
