I've taken a great deal of interest in NIFB both through my church and through a class that I teach on energy and the environment. In church, I presented an object lesson for the kids in the congregation explaining NIFB's Backpack Program. In my class, I designed an assignment in which the students volunteer, then calculate how much fresh water they saved and how much greenhouse gas they prevented by saving food that otherwise would have been thrown away.
I support NIFB's plans for expansion to meet even more of the need in Illinois.

Assistance with documenting how much food is processed by each shift. (Did we process 100? 500? 1000? 20 lb boxes during our shift?) Knowing how many pounds of food were processed is a metric that immediately informs the volunteers of just how much their efforts contributed to the well being of the recipients.
It made me realize that by offering such a small portion of my time can have such a huge impact on those less fortunate than I. Through my wife's efforts, I learned of the huge environmental impact that saving this food from going to waste has.
I feel like I am making a more positive impact on society than any other activity I do outside of my regular employment.
I have seen my children become more committed to helping others who are less fortunate.
Help them get moved into their new building so they can be more effecient.
