My agency partners with Northeast Florida Area Agency on Aging to provide services to seniors in our community. Because of our common client base, we communicate regularly through the ElderSource Roundtable and other community meetings. We could not ask for a partner more passionate about the work we do and the clients we serve.
We are a 5-year-old grassroots volunteer organization in Jacksonville with the mission of empowering frail seniors to continue to live independently via practical services at no charge. As a founder with no social services background, I have found Eldersource to be extremely important in providing the resources we need to do our jobs well. From the Executive Director all the way down to the receptionist, Eldersource's staff is focused on feeding and sheltering seniors, as well as protecting them, educating them, and advocating for them. Linda Lavin is a tremendous champion for this often isolated, ill, and vulnerable population segment - setting the standard for us all.
I have been a nurse dealing with the elderly for over 6 years. Working with Eldersource makes me realize just how many seniors are not getting the care they need, whether it be from their own doctors or hospitals. We are lucky to have Eldersource in place to try and catch those seniors who have somehow fallen through the cracks and are not aware of the help that is out there for them.
ElderSource is an undiscovered jewel for the citizens that our organization serves in concert with theirs. The individuals with ElderSource truly have the best interests at heart for patients who, without these services, would fall through the cracks of the healthcare system. It is my pleasure to work with such a group of accomplished professionals who routinely help to make the quality of life better for those in our community. Many people (including some physicians) are still not keenly aware of the fact that individuals on Medicare can utilize Medicare Certified Home Health for FREE; with ElderSource, we continue to impart this knowledge and help those who need it.
As a Medicare certified Home Health provider one of challenges is finding the patients that need our services the most. After inservicing the key people at ElderSource (the ones that get calls from the most needy patients I have worked with) we were able to set up a mechanism by which these desparate seniors are able to access skilled services in their homes with out having to rely on them being hospitalized first (an unnecessary and costly expense). We are truly providing help to those that need it the most and it is a great feeling.
The Northeast Florida Area Agency on Aging has tremondous resources in their limited staff. They have staff that really care about the people they serve and they are very knowledgeable in their diverse fields. Several of their projects were so outstanding that they have been duplicated and shared throughout the state.
Linda Levin and her staff do an amazing job. As the manager of Talking Books/Special Needs of the Jacksonville Public Library, I have had substantial contact with this agency over several years now. I never cease to be amazed at the energy and positive attitudes reflected in the staff. All of Northeast Florida's seniors need to be aware of the offerings that are available to them; the Agency does an outstanding job in its effort to provide this service.
I attended a meeting to get our organizations Walking Buddies program launched in Jacksonville, FL. They helped me to establish connections that I would not otherwise have made. Wondeful organization with many active volunteers.
