I was introduced to the north lake side cultural center when I was attending a musical theater camp that led me to become a successful student, not imbarresed to speak my mind. The camp taught me great values that I will keep with me through out the rest of my life. Later on when I was of age I chose to become a camp consulor so that I could help others as they helped me. I appreciate all of the people who are involved with this organization as I got to experiance what they stand for and that is to help others with out asking for anything in return.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My school work my jobs and life in general.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Host a fundraiser inirder to continue serving the community.

I am continually impressed with NLCC's programming, the wide variety of cultural events that take under its roof -art exhibitions, theater, music concerts of all sorts, after school programs - as well as that it's home to other arts organizations.
The NLCC serves a large and diverse population well. The only thing that seems to keep it from doing more is that there is a diminishing amount of funds for cultural organizations.

...the art exhibits and concerts hosted by NLCC.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

... see that it got more funding to continue its current programs, and to see that even more people in the area knew of its programs.

The first time I volunteered at the North Lakeside Cultural Center was on Martin Luther King Day several years ago. I helped by painting the walls where great art work would be displayed. I came back many times to the NLCC to volunteer to do whatever was necessary to keep the building clean and ready for more artists, musicians, and actors to present their craft.

Art exhibitions, music lessons, and theater groups are practicing every time I come to volunteer there. There is artistic energy all around which feels wonderful.

NLCC is such a value to this community. In the summer, there are art fairs on the grounds. It's location on Lake Michigan gives people from near and far an opportunity to visit the fairs and the lake. Such beauty!

There are Jazz Supper Clubs every other week during most of the year that are delightful. Besides great jazz, I am fed a wonderful meal in a candlelight setting. The mansion is a great place for these supper clubs.

I believe working at NLCC makes me a better person and also feel so happy when I'm there.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would hope more money to keep everything moving smoothly could be found from private sources.

Over the past several years, I have had the very positive experience of participating in and attending a great number of activities at The North Lakeside Cultural Center. From offering live theatrical performances to jazz supper club events, art openings, and after-school youth programs, the community center that has been developed within the historic, architectual setting of the one-time "Gunder Family Mansion" has made a substantially valuable contribution to Chicago's Edgewater area. Having had the chance to both attend events and participate in their planning and implementation, I have found the N.L.C.C. to serve as a source of personal enrichment on many different levels. I continue to look forward to future events.

On at least five occasions, I have had the personal experience of being directly involved in the design and implementation of cultural enrichment events at the N.L.C.C. serving a range of participants that has extended from neighborhood high school students to U.S. military veterans who were taking part in educational programs at schools throughout the Chicago area.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Extend the schedule of social/cultural events offered to residents within the Edgewater area.
