Interfaith Community services remain a key contributor to the community in North County San Diego. However, in the past years the organization has gone away from their faith center supporter. As an example of challenges, there was a large turnover of 4 of 6 Directors (Executive Staff) in less than a year including their Human Resource Director and including some high quality staff and volunteers. The failed merger also brings to light internal management issues (finances and structure). This can not be directed to one person because toleration of poor performance by others (Executive staff, BOD, etc) can also be contributing factor to current challenges faced by the organization.

Another question to consider is the safety of staff and customers in the facility. I don't have factual basis if this is an issue but, social service organizations that involve mentally challenged customers need a safety procedure awareness to all its employee and volunteer.

I would observe this organization a little closer. It has a top heavy management for a NonProfit organization. I would look at their financials to see how much is the administrative cost and programming cost ratio to revenue.

I know the organization still offers a much needed service to the community.

I had the privilege of working with Interfaith in the context of a redevelopment project in North San Diego County. I was able to experience first-hand their commitment and dedication to their clients (in this case, their residents). I was very impressed with the care they took to ensure the best outcome for their clients.

I've experienced Interfaith from a variety of perspectives - as a member of the community, as a professional seeking help for others, as a program monitor, donor, former employee, and more.

No matter how you look at it, ICS is a quality, compassionate, effective organization that
creates dynamic programs that both respond to critical needs in the community and use experience and expertise to prevent problems in the future.

The Great!

As a community leader, when faced with trying to solve crisis - it's my first and foremost resource in Escondido because of ICS' breadth of service and ability to respond. As a professional, I've formally evaluated the organization's capacity, goals, and outcomes.

As part of The Salvation Army in North County, I have worked alongside Interfaith staff, volunteers and clients over the past two decades and am still impressed and inspired by the dedication, expertise and practical assistance that Interfaith Community Services continues to provide to the impoverished, homeless and disabled in our community. It is hard, demanding and costly work but the staff and their army of volunteers and supporters are there for the long-haul. Theirs is a demonstrated commitment to social justice.

I work alongside many of the ICS staff in ministering to the needs of the homeless in our community. I often rely on their staff for expertise, assistance and resources.

I would relocate the veteran's residential program to it's own site and expand the day program activities

Almost ten years ago, I moved to North County San Diego and became Executive Director of a small non-profit, North Coastal Service Center. In my short years there, we struggled to provide services to those who were most in need for food, shelter and other financial assistance. I attended several inter-agency meetings where I met the director of North County Interfaith Council. I was very impressed with the overall organization, its scope of services and the magnificent way it involved the community in its service provision. When my small organization struggled financially I worked with my board of directors to merge with Interfaith. This was a strategic move that incorporated our location, services and 75 member volunteer group with this dynamic organization. Seamlessly, Interfaith helped us to serve those in need with dignity, efficiency and effectiveness. Instead of a void, Interfaith helped to bolster a continuum of services to the disadvantaged in North County, improving our capabilities, honoring our volunteers and enabling the Oceanside community to benefit from Veterans services, housing, counseling and providing assistance with basic needs. I worked for Interfaith for two more years and still continue to volunteer, donate and support this "jewel by the sea."

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Observing them prior to my affiliation, working with the organization through a merger and working for two years as a Development Associate. After I left, I occasionally volunteer and still support them financially.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I have no suggestions as I see the services and model as "cutting edge."
