New Futures partners with families to create communities where children thrive. The organization provides culturally relevant programs to kids and their families in four low-income apartment complexes in the South King County, Washington region. By co-locating its programs where the kids and families live New Futures builds skills (through academic tutoring and mentoring), fosters strong community connections via programs for parents and other adults in the community and promotes strengths. New Futures also routinely measure and evaluates it programs for effectiveness. Kids at academic risk who stay in New Futures programs for a year typically improve their reading skills by more than 1 grade level.
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Witnessing the evolution and redirection of a teenage girl in the community who was once at risk of becoming a drop-out but instead became the first person in her family to go to college as a direct result of her involvement with New Futures.
