Mission: BOMB's mission has remained intact since 1981: To promote understanding and appreciation of the arts through interviews between peers, and to contextualize those interviews through the presentation of original fiction, poetry, and art. BOMB's interviews are primary documents of American cultural history: conversation about the arts, by the people who make the arts. These interviews between artists, writers, musicians, actors and directors have engendered dynamic exchanges between hundreds of voices in the contemporary world of arts and letters. Focusing on ideas rather than personalities, BOMB interviews delve into discussions of process and aesthetics, allowing for the emergence of complex and varied positions on art-making and life.

I am a writer and feel very fortunate that Bomb has published three of my stories. I had a great experience with them, from the time I submitted the stories on through publication. And the greatest part of the experience was the audience that followed the magazine. A lot of interesting people read my stories, people I never would have been exposed to. I find Bomb to be an incredibly well-run magazine with a whole view of its mission -- to find good artists, to showcase them, and then to promote and publicize the magazine in a way that draws a lot of attention to the work. It's really an amazing, and unusual combination.

BOMB is an incredible resource for artists and writers. The editorial perspective is open and up-to-the-minute. Literary editor Monica de la Torre responded to my poetry submission quickly and substantively. I received many responses to my work that appeared in BOMB--from an eclectic group of writers and artists. As a reader, I must also say how crucial BOMB has been in keeping me informed of developments in related fields. I'm especially grateful for the literary supplement and for the inclusion of interviews with important international filmmakers, artists, and writers.

I can't think of any changes that would be appropriate. BOMB is doing a great job. There's no other magazine that covers this important cultural work with the same level of attention and expertise.

As a freelance contributor to and longtime reader of BOMB, I can say enthusiastically that it is an invaluable institution, a venue for artists to engage directly and at the highest levels with other artists across media, and a nonprofit that--unlike so many--has survived from the seventies with its soul intact through many changes financial, cultural, and social in the art world.

As I write, I am using an interview on the BOMB website as a research source for a review in progress for another magazine.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make the visual design less busy, and encourage public events--talks, readings, screenings, symposia--that take advantage of BOMB's immense list of contributors.

a great magazine! BOMB runs the most provocative interviews because they're between artists, the people who know best about provocation.

I have worked as a contributing editor for BOMB for almost 30 years. This arts quarterly has never shifted from its central mission, to bring artists and writers together in conversation, and to publish their interviews and their work. There is nobody of any stature that BOMB has overlooked--film makers, composers, novelists and poets, painters and performance artists... actors... playwrights... and no other publication is committed as BOMB is to publishing their ideas in depth as they discuss them not with a journalist but a peer. My own contribution in the early years was to conduct lengthy interviews with British writers as yet unfamiliar to a wide American audience. Readers of BOMB were the first to read Martin Amis, Ian McEwan, Julian Barnes and a number of others speaking frankly and at length about their work. BOMB has been ahead of the curve in this way in every area of artistic activity, and for this reason is to be considered a very great nonprofit indeed.

... my movements and activities in the New York art and literary worlds for many years. BOMB is widely read and discussed both within and beyond the creative community of not only New York but Central America, Europe and elsewhere. It is a truly international organ.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

... refuse to.

Besides its other virtues -that I am sure others will come up with, no doubt BOMB is an art and literature key publication-, BOMB Magazine has brought the Literature and the Arts from abroad, making visible (in an otherwise quite provincial landscape) the pulse and mind of other latitudes. I admire their work

BOMB is an insightful art magazine that I was thrilled to write for as they covered international filmmaker extraordinaire Korean filmmaker PARK Chanwook in depth to expose and share with the American audience. BOMB is always about the genuine core of what makes the artist tick and how to share that in a inspiration way. I support BOMB whole heartedly.
