Working through Volunteer Nepal has been an incredible experience. All of the people whom I have had the pleasure of working with at this organization are friendly, generous, and exude a positive energy while working together to make a change in the local community. My intentions for coming to Nepal where to volunteer in a medical capacity, and Volunteer Nepal was among the first group of organizations that popped up on my Google search. After close communication with several different volunteering organizations that offered "medicine" among other things, I am lucky to have chosen Volunteer Nepal for its genuine and selfless nature. At the time, Volunteer Nepal stood out above the rest as being a program dedicated to helping women and children and selflessly giving back to the community. Volunteer Nepal not only is partnered with Nepal Orphans Home - an organization that houses more than 100 children and provides them a stable, supportive home life as well as a top education; but it also supports efforts such as The Chelsea Center - a local center that empowers women through offering skills and English language classes; EDUC - a local preschool that provides an effective and motivating framework for their children to learn; participating with Curry Without Worry - an organization that cooks and provides a hot meal to homeless people every Tuesday evening in Kathmandu; and many placements both in Kathmandu and outside The Valley in medicine, agriculture and development, and teaching English. I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in many of the aforementioned projects during my 2 month stay in Nepal, and will be leaving today with a greater sense of accomplishment than I thought was possible. I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful of an organization Volunteer Nepal is - and I've worked with a few others in the past, this one is undeniably top notch. Thank you for all of the lessons you've taught me, the friendships I've developed, and for allowing me the opportunity to do something good in this world. Cheers & Namaste. Maria

My daughter, her friend, and I volunteered for 2 weeks in June 2016 with NOH. It was a life changing experience. Their staff and the whole organization is incredible and each placement brings about new experiences. I highly recommend volunteering through NOH and plan to come back very soon.

My girlfriend and I volunteered with Volunteer Nepal for seven weeks and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Volunteer Nepal and NOH are both very well administered organizations run by great people. If you want to volunteer, they're very flexible and willing and able to work with you to customize your volunteer experience, and the work that they're doing is incredible. We plan to support VN and NOH in the future, and hope as many others as possible do as well.

I volunteered with Nepal Orphans Home Inc for ten months, and it was truly the best ten months of my life! For ten months, I was able to work with 22 amazing kids at a nearby orphanage. During this time, I was challenged in the best way possible. I tutored, played, and laughed every single day. I would not change this experience for anything in the world. Anyone looking for a wonderful volunteer experience, in a beautiful country, with an amazing and supportive community, has found the right place in NOH!

Back in 2012, I was a senior CSR in a big Israeli company, and took active part in several local projects in my own country. However I had a sense of duty to do something beyond its borders, and Nepal was my choice. NOH was one of quite a few NGOs' sites that I explored, trying to realize my plan to go on a volunteering trip, and it was love on first sight. I was extremely impressed by the so open, yet professional and strict manner I was taken care of. It was from the registration procedure, through Q & A process, welcoming and orientation on the ground, accompanying me to the placement I had chosen, bringing me back safe and sound, and concluded with thorough briefing for comments. From my own professional experience, I knew what it takes to perform such a perfection.
Beyond any of these, I met adorable happy children in the houses of NOH in Kathmandu, devoted staff, and amazing volunteers from countries across the globe. I still keep in touch with directors, staff and grownups children of NOH, and came back for further volunteering, mostly in Kathmandu. I do look up to the wonderful people who run the operations in Nepal, and to the Board members who dedicated themselves to better our wonderful children's lives. I must say that it was great pride for me to bring my own children down there, and to share with them one of my secret sources of optimism, sense of fulfillment and a role model of unconditional love.
I viee NOH as a highly accountable, in regard of using sources of any kind, which encourage donors to invest in NOH's projects as well. Nepal Orphans Home has got my highest trust in all relevant senses.
I have no doubt that I will keep being in touch with NOH and its precious people.

If you are interested in volunteering, I highly recommend doing the right research and talking to the right people. There are a great deal of scams and organizations that are only there to take your money especially in Nepal. However, NOH and Volunteer Nepal are not on that list. This organization is full of passionate directors and advisors that will give you all of the opportunities that you need to make a difference. No matter what your interests are, they can help, so that you can help. As a medical volunteer myself, I assisted in rural hospitals delivering vaccines to local villages, or diagnosed patients with clubbed feet outside of Kathmandu. There are so many opportunities! In kathmandu, many of the volunteers went to an English converstaion class with local Nepali women, taught English and mathmatics to children of all ages, and/or became friends with local Nepali orphans in NOH and other local organizations. The cost may seem like it is a lot, I know as a broke student paying back loans, but it is worth it. Half of the money goes directly to the children and community. They get a great education, have 2 to 3 meals a day, and have opportunities that would not be possible without this aid. The rest goes to your food, housing, and travel expenses. Again, I highly recommend this organization! It completely changed my view in my profession and as a person. If you have any additional questions email me at nwilliams15@ jcu.edu. Go make a difference.

Hi my name is Leah and I am from New Zealand. I had the pleasure to be under the care and guidance of Michael and his team in June 2013. I had been won over by the friendly and courageous people of Nepal in a previous trip in April. I journeyed back there with an unsettling urge to do something meaningful, something that could make a difference. I was motivated by a close friend who was similarly inspired, so I made plans with Volunteer Nepal and set goals to achieve. I was welcomed not only by the honest and accommodating staff but also the fellow volunteers that form a community hub, a family away from home. The children within Michaels care are happy and loving despite the trials and mistreatment they may have known, and this is to Michaels credit. He has a genuine love and a compassionate spirit that sustains the organisation. His gentleness and kindness are a model to all that come into his contact. There is obviously are strong will and determined fortitude as well as the houses and needs are met and advocated for in a system of bureaucracy that is fraught with difficulties. My experience was life changing and the friendships I made will remain a constant reminder to the love and community humanity should strive for.

58 years of life experience, and 10 years involvement in social accoutability in my country, Israe, brought me asa volunteer with Nepal Orphans's Home (NOH ) for a month, teaching English in a Buddhist monastery, located in a Nepali remote area. I was highly impressed by professional approach of NOH's team from the very first contact I had. It continued with warm welcoming in their very well organized Volunteer house, efficient orientation, reasonable weekly fee, as well as needed support throughout the whole period of time given to the placement.
Ever since volunteering, I have been a supporter of this very important NGO, which takes excellent care, of almost 150 children, living in 5 homes in Kathmandu.
Aside from their great concerns for their children, NOH team is well aware of volunteer needs, regarding diversity of activities and location of placements. Thus, it offers a wide range of options to volunteer for various durations. I met kind and caring people, who make great contribution to a positive volunteering experience, for all kind of potential volunteers - youth, adult, travelers, specialist etc.
Wisely, NOH has established good connections with medical institution around Kathmandu, in order to help them with volunteering, as well as making potential jobs for their grown children, and recently there are some good fruit of these initiatives.
Finally, efficiency regarding cost-effect is quite impressive, and it is very well shown by the homes' maintenance, food providing , education and so much loving care of the children. So, potential donors can be sure that donations are being channelled to stated goals, with minimum add on to organizational costs. I am privileged to take part in such mission, with such people, who succeed to make it so different for so many human beings.

I volunteered there last summer and I had the best time ever! I can't wait to come back again and again and again like I know so many of the volunteers have. It's a relatively loose and not-so-professional approach to volunteerism since it's such a small organization, but it works out (at least for me) so, so well! Depending on the duration of your stay, the impact the volunteering has varies I feel. It's definitely not null if you are just a short visitor, but I think you can make the most impact by laying out a summer or a few months of free time and just assimilating into the beautiful culture here. We can really get that because of how insanely genuine this program is.
