Mission: Nehirim (”lights”) is a national, nonprofit, and nondenominational organization which builds community for GLBT Jews, partners and allies. Our retreats and other programs celebrate GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender) Jewish identity, culture and spirituality. Through this work, we empower GLBT Jews to become active voices in their home communities, and build a more vibrant Jewish world by including GLBT people within it.

Nehirim was the first place where I discovered a queer Jewish community. Even though there are months between retreats, each time I come back that feeling of community grows stronger. I am very grateful to Nehirim for introducing me to a world in which I belong.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the sense of identity which I have developed within the queer Jewish community

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Ways to make it better...

there were more smaller community get-togethers that aren't on weekdays in New York so people from other cities could attend.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

One thing I'd also say is that...

It is a pleasure to partner with Nehirim in creating LGBT spiritual community together. They are also truly inclusive of the full diversity of the queer Jewish community, and open to spiritual seekers, non-Jewish partners and allies.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

their weekend retreats.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

their openness, diversity, and genuine welcoming approach to creating community.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Smart, funny, hardworking, creative, inspiring.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

hold retreats in many more locations.
